Quote:I would get Roy Miller, Davis, Pasztor, and Ball.

I wouldn't hate having Geno Hayes back but for a backup role (our starting WILL should be Telvin, and our starting jack isn't on this roster)

My hope would be to retain all of these guys with the intention of finding upgrades for every single one of them (besides Davis who excels in a rotational role). Our depth would be that much better if we could manage to do so.
Quote:Exactly.  It's hilarious to watch these guys fight over bums.  There are some ok decent players on the list but mostly backups and practice squad material.

Who's fighting?  Almost very post talks about "depth," "back-up" or "rotation."   Your post makes no sense.
Quote:Austin Pastor

Alan Ball

Geno Hayes

Ryan Davis

Will Ta'ufo'ou

Austin provides nice depth.

Alan provides veteran depth as well. He was also a very solid starter last year.

Geno would be good only if for the right price.

What is Ta'ufo'ou good at?
Pretty much shows where the team is when you only want to keep 3 or 4 players tops.

I think if we bring any of these guys back, it needs to be short term "prove it" deals.   The last thing this team needs is to get bogged down with a bunch of expensive contracts that really aren't commensurate with the experience and talent level.  If the guys develop, then the contract stuff will take care of itself.  The team and the player will be better off.

Depending on price and whatever else we do in FA I could see a few guys sticking around including Miller,Paztor,Davis and maybe Thomas. But Im not sure who we will bring in so that will effect it.

Im also very nervous about Suh as a Jag, I do believe he is just working for that paycheck this season and will go back to just halfBeeping it after he gets the money.

I'm not high on Suh either.  I think he would be more trouble than he's worth.  I'm not sure we need that right now with trying to develop the young guys.  If we were on par with the Pats or the Packers, I could see us taking that chance.  I just don't think he would make a good Jaguar.

That's been Caldwell's FA philosophy since he arrived so I don't think that's going to be an issue.
Would Suh compare better to Albert Haynesworth, instead of Douglas?
Todman. He is a good KR.

Roy Miller, Davis, Pasztor, and Ball for cheap.

A lot of folks thought Mario Williams wasn't worth the cash and just out for the check. Which team is leading the league in sacks these days? Folks just are conditioned to this team not spending that much money and ho up come free agency. Not necessarily want Suh cause we can get a tackle in the top 5 close to him but if a player is worth it you go.
ryan davis and pasztor will get signed

even if they are just camp bodies both are worth the small amount of money it would cost. I think todman is another camp body as kick returner and 3rd down back

i think jt thomas has show enough potential to get a low money 2 year deal. I think hayes gets let go with thomas going in as the starter at sam linebacker and us making significant signings in that department especially if poz is released

I think roy miller gets let go

abry jones has been disruptive than  in his limited snaps and i think they will look for a bigger upgrade than roy miller at the starter. I don't think it will be suh big but i think it's a position that may get upgraded

i also think ball will be kept

too often we've been beaten on 4 and 5 wide sets. I think mccray and colvin get the starting job with gratz becoming the nickel back and ball coming in on dime packages and just as good depth.

As long as Cecil Shorts is not resigned I will be happy. Underperforming yet again and in a contract year. The guy can't play at this level and it is obvious.

The only ones I think they should resign are:

Geno Hays and ryan davis the rest can walk.  Ball was pretty bad before the injury so he can go as well. Tufo would be alright for the right price
Sick

I disagree Paztor is worth keeping for depth chart if nothing else (if his injuries arent so severe as to continue each year or worse)

JT Thomas has made several mistakes but he's also caught two INTs I think, and had chances at a few others but dropped them.  He's great for depth if nothing else... he does tend to make mistakes which had Gus looking at his replacement with the add ons a couple weeks ago that werent ready to go due to injuries.

Ryan Davis is worth keeping if he doesnt want too much.. that is true with all that Ive mentioned so far I was basing it on a similar pay of what they have now...

on the fence about FB will he's made a few great plays this season....

Tommy Streeter I havent even seen him have a ball thrown his way yet... i think he was in on only one play so far since they picked him up like a week & half ago too soon to tell...

Toddman isnt that great of a returner or rb, but he has heart.. i would keep him as a backup but if he wanted a lot of money i would let him test FA.

I would let Ball go sure he caught an INT this year one of the only DB to do so beside safety guy or martin i forget...

Cecil Shorts sure has been a let down this year... he's been great at times but i think i would let him go if I was Dave...

Roy Miller has been good at stopping the run some what but he's not worth the money he would want, especially if the Jags draft a DT in the first round this year... which i have a feeling they might do.

Hayes is now playing the strong side OLB so its hard to judge but the fact that Telvin Smith took his role that he was orginially signed for might mean that they are looking in a different direction.. i guess it'll depend on how he finishes this year.

To me the one that will be talked about the most has to be WR Cecil Shorts III, i mean many value him to be an outstanding WR (most would say the best on the team) but I think he's on the decline.  He has been a bit of a disappointment this year.
Todman has actually been really good on kick returning, anyone notice that he gets atleast to the 30 yard line every time ?

Yes, I'm looking at their existing & potential salaries as well.  Pasztor ($570k) as a backup that can serve as a starter if someone is injured.   If we looking at our Free Agents as potential starters then let them all go.

We made a few mistakes years ago with cutting backups and it destroyed the cohesiveness that the team needs to communicate on the OLine and in the Secondary.   Heck, I remember Gene Smith cutting our 2 starting safeties 3 days before the Jags played the Titans on MNF.  I think our team was 3-4 at that time ..... we then went into the tank !!

Todman was choice #2 for me.  He's only making $645k so he's affordable as a backup RB and as a special teams guy.

Quote:Dude gives up a few sacks playing with a broken hand and you guys wanna throw him on the scrapheap.

That guy wants to throw them on the scrapheap the minute they become Jaguars.
Quote:What is Ta'ufo'ou good at?
He's not horrible at catching, and does get open on rare occasions for Blake.
re-sign:

Pastzor as a backup/swing guy and a ERFA...cheap.

Ta'ufo'ou for minimum/bring in competition...cheap

Ryan Davis is a good depth player...cheap.

JT Thomas as the #4 LB.  I like him as a player.  Very versatile.

Roy Miller only if we can't upgrade... (Hopefully we take a swing at Suh).

Let Ball walk.  We have good young corners and Blackmon is still under contract.

Let Shorts walk.  No explanation needed...

Let Hayes walk if we can upgrade (ie. KJ Wright)
