Here Are Outrageously Expensive Prices Northern Canadians Have To Pay For Food

Most people are probably unaware of the exorbitant prices Nunavut residents are forced to pay for basic things, like food. It’s been a longtime problem.

LOL, those socialists!   ha ha
This is a basic economic issue in regards to prices. The buzzfeed article is talking about Nunavut, a place that may as well be on the moon in terms of delivering supplies...

Tried looking up the cost of booze there, no info available but it must be outrageous.........

But I did find this:

Current mark-ups per litre are as follows:

Spirits $ 25.84

Wine$   7.69

Coolers $   3.00

Beer $   1.91

I thought I saw that a 6 pack was like 60 bucks!
I was in Toronto this summer and bought some art from Nunavut.  Maybe that is why it was so expensive.

Worth mentioning that the Canadian dollar is = $.87 US.

Also - many, many folks up there do a substantial amount of hunting, gathering and growing during the more mild months  - and often have co-ops and food share organizations within their communities.  (If you happen to grow potatoes, you'll barter them with the guy that has a small dairy, or a large chicken coop. etc. etc.)

LORD HAVE MERCY....

SERIOUSLY...

The price of Bottled Water is the Kicker...

NH3...

This is actually free market at its best/worst. If the government was involved prices wouldn't be this high.

I agree. Instead there would be shortages, like when Nixon put price controls on beef.
