There aren't many college programs who shut their programs down. Feel bad for the kids. I coached a couple that are there, and know another who is a coaches son now and they are unsure of what they'll do next at this point.

I feel bad for the coaches, the players and the fans.

Unfortunately, the UAB program has been getting the shaft for a while now.

The Tuscaloosa good ol' boy network (led by Bear Bryant's son) has been holding the UAB program back for years.

They tried to hire Jimbo Fisher as their head coach eight years ago and the move was blocked by Bryant Jr and the board of trustees.

Here is another interesting story that came out recently about it. Again with Bryant Jr as the bad guy.

I know a guy who's a pretty big Georgia booster and supposedly there's an inner circle at Bama that makes all the decisions when it comes to football. A group of 8-10 guys. I can't remember what the name of it is but they go by something in reference to Bear Bryant.
Here is another story from a few years ago about the Bama Board of Trustees (led by Bryant Jr) refusing to review a proposal of building an on campus stadium at UAB

Alabama is giving the Johnny Football sign. UAB has been doomed for a couple of years. When Bryant would not let them even talk to Jimbo well that was it.

I wonder what the rules are for these kids with transferring.  I can't imagine they'd have to sit out a year since their football team cancelled the program and scholarship....but it's the NCAA, so who knows.

I am sure they will get a waiver similar to what the kids from Penn State got.

Free transfer. Kids can go anywhere they want and not have to sit out a season.

That's good then.  Sounds like this has been in the works for a bit...and to shut it down the year they make a bowl game is pretty bad.
Alot tears shed at the meeting, kind of like the same thing happening when Florida announced its football program was continuing.

When people try to be funny and fail.....

Back on topic, there are some videos of the meeting out there and its pretty sad.  Shows how meaningful it was to some guys.  They are bowl eligible.  After this, I'm pretty sure someone is picking them up.

For someone who is not a fan of UF, you sure do defend them alot.

Its good to the the kids not be penalized for this.

How is saying something isn't funny defending anyone?  I am partial to UF this year because of how I perceive the FSU program to be.  You don't have to take my word for it, but in years past I have rooted for FSU over UF.  I hold no allegiance to either school.

You are terrible at trying to make jokes.
barstoolsports.com has video taken inside the meeting room when the school president gave the team the message. It's very emotional. Terrible situation all around.

That president is lucky to have made it out of there unscathed.

Fixed Thanks!
That's great news. A kid we had two years ago signed a scholarship and he was still unsure as to what he was going to do. I have to check in on him and see what he's doing. The Tide can stick it where the sun don't shine.
