The team won at least 5 games in 2008.

Quote:This has to be one of the worst years for injuries for the Jaguars in history.  Has there ever been a year where the Jaguars had more players injured?

we've been actually pretty healthy all things considered
Linder and Allen Robinson. Telvin Smith is close, as is Bowanko. Overall, it's a solid class. The focal point will be on Bortles.

Yes.

For the poop I've given Caldwell in his overall personnel decisions, he has had a nice draft class.  I gave the nod to Robinson, as he was the most productive up until his injury.  However, I thought Linder was going to be a bust, and I am happy to have been wrong.  Bowanko started the year as a 3rd choice center, behind Brewster and McClendon....this guy may develop into a solid center.  Hurns has been a diamond in the undrafted rough.  If Bortles and Lee can up their games, as they should be able to do, and Colvin come back from his injury, this draft class will be impressive.

Telvin Smith, Brandon Linder, Allen Robinson all of these guys have played well at their respective positions could be cornerstones for the future
O yeah and Bowanko
Hurns wins my vote for now but looking at the list I really hope we have some stars in the future. I also believe we did a very good job in the draft looking at it now. But I know wins are more important and I hope we get some with these guys at some point.

I feel Telvin Smith continues to make a strong arguement for himself... lets see what happens this final week of the season.

You have to keep in mind the position they play, how long they have played or started at that position this year, basically all the variables.

QB Blake Bortles 191 comp out of 305 attempts for 62.6%, 2,067 yards, 8TDS, 15 INTS, 70.8 Rating

Side note rushing blake is tied for 11th among all rookies with 39 attempts for 228 yards or 4.3 avg which is better than Teddy Bridgewater and other QB rookies

WR Marqise Lee 16 rec for 193 yards, 0 Tds

WR Allen Robinson 48 rec for 548 yards, and 2 touchdowns

WR Allen Hurns 31 rec for 488 yards and 5 touchdowns

(My selection) whom is 10th in the league among rookies for tackles (despite not starting in any games all season only playing nickle packages)

OLB Telvin Smith 53 tackles, 38 solo, 15ast, 2 sacks, 1 INT, 2 Fumble Recoverys, 1 Forced fumble,  and 4 PD!  (tied for 7th among rookies in sacks as well)

DE Chris Smith 3 tackles and 1.5 sack

RB Storm Johnson 20 att 64 yards, 3.2 avg (worse than Blakes)
Update on Telvin Smith:

Starting in 8 games Telvin Smith has 88 Tackles, 61 solo, 27 ast, 2 sacks, 4 pdef, 1 INT for 15 yards, 1 FF, and 2 FR.

5th in Comb / Total tackles among rookies, and 14th in sacks and 9th in INTs among rookies...

Tied 52nd in the NFL for Total tackles despite only starting in 8 games this year.

Colvin is going to be he best player from this class. Love him.
Quote:Hurns bc of value
I agree. Hurns has more than outplayed his UFA contract.
I voted Allen Hurns. For what he has done so far on this team as a UDFA is nothing short of amazing. But, with that said if Allen Robinson didn't get injured I feel that I would go with him. Overall I feel really good about most of the rookies and I'm excited to see that talent to mature!
If the Jaguars have this good of drafting in the upcoming draft the team is going to be fantastic in 2016!

ARob, Hurns, Lee, T Smith, Colvin, Linder have all really impressed me and outperformed the vets we had. Bowanko, Bortles and Chris Smith have done some nice things but have looked more like rookies than the other guys. Johnson hasn't played enough.

If these guys continue to improve next season we could be looking at one of the best draft classes in team history.

1. Allen Robinson - Was on pace for a 70+ catch 900+ yard rookie season with almost no drops on a team surrounded by other rookies and a rookie QB. I think he led all rookies in 3rd down conversion percentage. At 21 years old he was playing like a vet. And Hackenberg went to crap when Penn State lost him. Yeah, he gon be special. Glad it's for this team.

2. Telvin Smith - He's been a beast and pretty much the 3rd best rookie linebacker behind Borland and Mack this year. Once he gets up to 225+ he'll be a nightmare for offenses. His coverage ability combined with his speed and run stopping is amazing. And he makes big game changing plays and is a great presence on the field and in the lockerroom. Once again, a special player and should be a fixture on this defense for years to come.

3. Brandon Linder - Purely speaking on play this season at their respective position, he has probably been the best rookie. He almost never gives up pressure and is a mauler in the run game while he has nothing next to him at RT. I don't know how our scouting staff figured out what pretty much no one else in the scouting community did, but bravo to us. He has played like an All-Pro as a rookie with a porous RT next to him.

4. Aaron Colvin - In the limited time he's been on the field, he's looked like a future star CB. He shows up every game with a great hit or coverage play, and like Telvin is a great energy spark. He's clearly the most talented player in the secondary and he's only been on the field for what, 5 games? Yeah, once again, special player.

5. Allen Hurns - What he's done as a UDFA is nothing short of incredible. He'll be pushed down the depth chart next year, but it's really nice knowing that if one of our receivers get hurt we have a player like Hurns we can just pull out.

Misc: Bortles, Bowanko, and Lee have been up and down but all show great promise for the future. Bowanko needs to put on another 10 pounds and he'll probably be a beast. If Bortles commits the entire offseason to fixing his footwork he could be pretty special next year. This year was a good learning experience for him and  he got learn the value of taking care of the ball early and he's really improved at that, so now next year he shouldn't be a turnover machine especially with his improved footwork. Not to mention hopefully he'll have a better line blocking for him next season running game to rely on. I think it's well documented that should Bortles fix his mechanics and become accustomed to the NFL game he has the talent to be an upper echelon QB, and the offensive line has only exacerbated his deficiencies this season. But I think it says a lot about him that he doesn't look discouraged and never gives up...unlike a certain other QB  we had here. And finally, Lee is really coming into his own these last few weeks. If Bortles doesn't overthrow a couple passes Lee could have easily had 100 yards in at least two out of the last 4 games. He's finally understanding the offense and is now just allowing his natural talent to take over and we're seeing a lot of wow plays out of him now that he has the chance.

Overall, this is probably the best draft class we've had since the turn of the century. Really great stuff.

I hear what you're saying about Telvin Smith but you act like CJ Mosley ain't out here on these football fields every Sunday. And people who say you shouldn't take linebackers high in the draft are crazy. They make more plays happen than a lil bit. Telvin is my number one rookie and I cant wait to see him play behind Leonard Williams and Sen'Derrick Marks next year.
i meant 4th best behind Mack, Mosley, and Borland. Forgot about Mosley somehow.

Anybody not picking Linder is crazy. He has had the best rookie season for his position out of all the rooks.  I picked Linder and I gave a B for overall draft because of so many good draft picks.. I guess they could get an A because how many teams hit on that many solid players in one draft?  The only reason I didn't give an A is I don't see any huge play makers like Odell Beckham (yet).

Quote:Allen Robinson. It's a shame he went out with that foot injury, he could've had a 1,000 yard season in Jax as a rookie. That's unprecedented.

I think the rookie class has performed very well thus far, they've been a big part of the team. Our receivers are rookies, our QB is a rookie, and half our O-Line are rookies. That shows a lot.

If AR15 comes back 100%, then his injury may have been a blessing in disguise.  Lee was getting little to no reps while AR15 was out.

Lee got a chance to show his skill set while AR15 has been out.

I voted for Hurns as the best rookie.  But the case for Telvin Smith is very strong as well.  I just think the fact that Hurns only missed 1 game and has been so reliable catching the ball while getting hit on every play is worthy of him getting mad props.
