Quote:This is starting to become a big concern of mine. I feel we haven't had a coach who makes halftime adjustments since Coughlin, but this is getting ridiculous. I don't see Fisch putting together a gameplan to attack opposing defenses' weaknesses like the good coordinators do.
Attack with what?
The O-line hasn't blocked or protected in the past two games for squat. Bortles threw one of the ugliest INts I've ever seen on his first flipping pass Sunday. They try to run - but the o-line still struggles to open holes even when the box isn't stacked. And of course - it usually is.
They are sucking so bad right now - there isn't really a way to attack anyone's weakness.
Quote:Exactly. It's been since 2010 since the Jaguars had a good QB, and even then Garrard was just a starting level game manager.
The Jaguars have gotten nothing but extremely low quality QB play since then.
We didn't know or appreciate Dave enough it seems. He was a quote "game manager" but he could run for 60 yards and pass for 3-4 touchdowns working with scrubs that could not make another NFL team. We also were in most every game even against the Pats with Brady in his prime. Those days seem a lifetime ago...sigh.. I miss those gaudy pimp suits. Ha-ha

He was what he was, a middle of the league starting level guy.
Not an elite for sure, not a true franchise level guy that the team doesn't think they could upgrade, just a starting level game manager.
You have to remember the offensive line and Taylor and MJD were playing pretty good football during his time as a starter, and it's not like he was a 4000 yard passer, ever. His career high was 3600, you know, just a few hundred more than Henne threw for as a part time starter last season.
The second quarter seems to be killing is as well.
But here's the real problem as :-D been said before: our offense can't score. You're not winning in the nfl like this. Bad play calling, bad offensive scheming, bad protection by the O-line, and bad qb play. It's a recipe for disaster.
11 games. 2 of which we scored 23 and 24... we won one and lost one.
The other 9 games, we couldn't score more than 17... we lost all those games.
You can't win if you can't consistently score 23 points in the NFL. We need a better coaching staff to help develop our offensive players.

The Colts were getting upfield so fast yesterday and stacking the box, they were begging us to throw quick slants and posts to the outside. That used to be our bread and butter. Now all Fisch wants to call is a swing pass, a bubble screen, or a screen pass to the slowest TE or RB on our roster. There is literally no risk of us doing anything else, and it didn't take long for other defenses to figure that out. You run a WR on a slugo and he'll be wide open because the safeties are 2 yards off the line of scrimmage and the DB is biting hard on the inside move. Defenses have NO respect for the intermediate or deep ball from our offense. Our o-line can provide enough time for these routes to develop, they don't take as long as a deep cross or deep post would. I just don't see why you don't TRY to do something different that other defenses aren't expecting from the word "go"

I get the point here and agree in theory. I'd even like to see it attempted and questioned it aloud during the game myself.
As to why they don't try - I can only assume they lack faith in Bortles and the receivers to pull it off. Which isn't a stretch considering how bad some of his passes were yesterday.
At this point -- they need a fresh round of smoke and mirrors. Anything to milk some production out of this offense. Your suggestion could be part of it. But it is not exactly "attacking a weakness."
Not a whole lot to add to this thread - bottom line is that this coaching staff is simply incapable of making proper halftime adjustments. We're just being outsmarted and outworked by the competition.
