I look at it like this; those seniors playing their final game in their respective bowls are most likely playing their final game of organized football for their life. What's wrong with half of the teams going into the real work world, chests stuck out in pride, saying we were the Rose Bowl Champs, we were the Sugar Bowl Champs, etc.?

 

With the playoff system those kids are all losing their final game of football except for the one team taking home the trophy. It's amateur football folks, played by kids, let them march into the real world with pride. They won't have another chance.

Uh, no.  I promise you those kids would prefer to be in a playoff with a chance to win the title than to go to a Rose Bowl with no chance.

thats my point. maybe someone thinks TCU, Ohio St, Bama, and Baylor are top 4? its all subjective. maybe someone thinks FSU, Georgia, TCU and Baylor?

 

but its their job to put in who they THINK is the best. not just who is undefeated.

You said they should pick the best 4.  That is the job they were given and whether you agree or not, they put FSU at #3.

i understand all of that. i was arguing with someone about FSU automatically being chosen just because theyre undefeated. I didnt once say they shouldnt be in.

 

i just made the point that being undefeated doesnt automatically make you one of the top 4 teams.

Again, we've had a bona fide champion all agree on but one year. The controversy won't end whether it's 8 teams or 16 teams.

The goal isn't to end all controversy. Like you said, teams 5 and 6 will complain now. With 8 teams, teams 9 and 10 will complain.

 

The goal, IMO, is to make sure no team with a legitimate case for best team in the country gets screwed out of a chance to play for the National Championship. In years past, with 2 teams, this may have happened.

youre the one not saying anything. someone above said that FSU deserves to be in simply based on the fact that they are an undefeated power 5 team.

 

i said that the object is to pick the best 4 teams and just because a team is undefeated in the power 5 does not automatically make them one of the best 4.

Now that I laid it out simply he can't admit that he was wrong. He just disappears.


At least the FSU fans have that in common.

Here's a scenario not far from a real possibility.

 

Missouri beats Alabama in the SEC championship game.

 

Florida beats FSU.

 

Miss St. moves up and TCU moves up to be with Oregon and Ohio St.

 

In this case, Miss St. is in the playoff without winning the conference nor the division within their conference.

 

Would the 4 best teams in the country be playing for the title? How can a team which didn't even win it's division be one of the 4 best when the division champion and conference champion are not in?
