Jameis is still a wildcard

He won't be a top 5 pick based on his history.
When I got to the ATL, I stay away from THE BLUFF.   That's the Compton of Atlanta.

Winston will still be a top 5 pick.

Quote:Not unless the number 2 team picking wants Mariota. Maybe the Bucs or Jets. If we have the first pick this year Im sure we will be able to trade it before the draft comes but it probably won't be like RG3 trade. Something similar but not that many picks. Ill be happy with this years 2nd and next years 1st.

Not really there's a few qb needy teams any team willing to give up a trade will give it up to first if they trade till second and someone jumps them they've wasted massive picks.

Also if we only get a 2nd this year and a first next year I'll be extremely disappointed
Quote:Is this the only way? Let's make a scenario where the top 5 is this:

Jaguars

Raiders

Jets

Bucs

Titans

Now the Jags tell the Bucs that they'll trade the pick to the Jets unless they see a better offer, then they tell the Jets they'll trade to the Bucs unless they up an offer. Match them off against each other. Hell, draft the kid then trade him if they don't stump up an offer, it's happened before.

This is if NFL teams value him like people think they do. We've seen QB hype at this time of the year before with a "locked-in" first pick end up going later. Bridgewater, Smith, Barkley etc.

This x100 though I'll disagree with the locked in picks. Bridgewater and smith firmly made themselves known during the season and where hype products, and Barkley everyone could see he had a bad arm and was throwing to arguably the two best receivers in college. Mariota has been a 5* prospect before the season

once the combine rolls around the draft "experts" will be loving him again
Quote:After a hard fought 10 games, we have finally worked our way to the top of the draft board. It was hard, but I knew we could do it. Can Dave and Gus pull off the ultimate bluff? I mean, the ultimate bluff?

Put BB in position to have a dreadful game Sunday and pull him for Hamneck Henne the rest of the way. Put out the rumor that they just don't see BB as the QB of this franchise and that we are interested in Mariota with the 1st pick. The only way we will be able to trade out of the 1st pick is if we are a threat to take Mariota. Otherwise, we are stuck reaching for a DE who isn't worthy of the 1st pick.

Come on Dave and Gus. Make us proud. Getting multiple high picks AND Blackmon back will put this rebuild into warp speed.

Ok, dream over.

For some reason, I don't think we're going to have to bluff to get somebody interested in our pick with Mariota/Hundley there.

Here is the current list of teams that I think would be considering a trade up for a QB if they fell in love with a guy:

Bills, Jets, Texans, Titans, Chiefs, Eagles, Redskins, Bucs, and Rams.

That's a lot of teams who could potentially be interested in trading up.  The Bills and Redskins don't really have picks to move up though, so they'd have to pull something completely out of left field to make it work.

Edit - Throw in Cincy and Atlanta to teams maybe willing to trade up depending on the QB.  I would consider those two teams to be borderline QB seeking teams.

Why trade the pick? Mariota is the better QB period! Caldwell best be picking the right QB this time.

Quote:once the combine rolls around the draft "experts" will be loving him again

He'll be a first round pick but he's not going top 5. He'll be in for a draft day humbling. The NFL has already experienced previous "immature" QBs (Ryan Leaf, Manziel's offseason) and with an increased emphasis after the Ray Rice and Peterson cases on protecting the leagues image, teams will be wary of taking that risk.
if they pick#1, pick Mariotta if you no one wants to trade with you. Then teams who don't want to trade up front will come to us then. Remember the Roethlisberger draft. If we had picked Ben, I bet  Steelers would've come to us and gave some draft picks we still could've drafted Reggie Williams as planned.

We won't need to bluff that we will take Mariota.

People who want to trade with us will be scared someone else will take him. Also.. still 6 weeks left so this is pretty useless.

Man you nancys are sensitive. The reason why Mariota looks impressive is because he is. Why not draft another QB. This team needs all the competition at QB it can get. Draft'em till you land'em.

They believe in Bortles. It would be foolish to waste the draft pick when you already believe you have the guy. It's not like we don't have plenty of other positions that could use a top pick.
Quote:Jedd Fisch is already doing that.
Agreed!
