Weather you want to "build the team through the draft or not" you can't make the playoffs when 75% of your team is in their 1st/2nd year in the NFL it just wont happen... We need to go big in Free Agency this year, go after play makers not failure projects like Dekoda Watson/Toby Gerfart..
Funny thing is it's nobody in free agency that's worth spending big on. Them saying they're gonna spend big is just talk and more time buying.

Do you try to act dumb or is it just not your fault?

Are you expecting David Caldwell to waive his magic wand fixing all the issues this roster has? This roster was historically bad when this regime took over, that's not a hyperbole. I'd like to see any business entity strip itself of
all
its talent while trying to compete with its competitors in that process, it's an impossible feat. It will take years for the Jaguars to rebuild this roster, and we're only a year and a half into that process. I completely understand the frustration, but its only year two for this regime.

I'm just curious... how young was that Bengals team that went to the playoffs when Dalton and AJ Green were rookies?

The offense (skill positions) were young, they had arguably the best offensive line in football along with several studs on defense.

They can do both. As long as for every two Watson/Gerhart type signings - you come away with one Alan Ball or Sen'Derrick Marks - then you are risking little and gaining a lot.
Obviously this coming offseason will be the time to extend the free agency focus into the top tier market as well (as Khan and Caldwell have stated) - but no need to stop kicking the tires on the potential bargains that are out there.
Who, exactly, was available in the FA market at OLB and RB that we should've signed instead KNOWING that we had to have some bodies for the roster?
I love it when people say "We wasted our time" without providing a reasonably better alternative.

"Weather" you want to accept it or not, when 75% of your team is in their 1st/2nd year in the NFL in year 2 of a rebuild, that bodes well for the future of the franchise if those 1st and 2nd year players are proving to be significant contributors to this team.
"Going big" in free agency just to get names people like you recognize won't help this team do anything but burn through cap space. Going SMART in free agency is more appropriate, but I won't bother to quibble over the details.
"Failure projects." Classic. Neither Gerhart nor Watson were high dollar acquisitions. They were transitional players the team brought in to see if they could be fixtures in the future of the franchise. Watson has already proven he's not, and they've made their decision. Gerhart is not far behind. Oh well. It's not like there was a deep pool of talent to pursue in free agency.

We should get some guys like Hugh Douglas, Jerry Porter, and Aaron Kampman this year. I'm sure that will fix everything!!!!!!

They're not saying they're going to "spend big" in free agency. They're saying they're going to be aggressive, which is pretty much what they were being this past off season with their attempt to land Mack. My guess is they're going to be smart about free agency, and they'll spend what is necessary to land guys they feel will be a good fit for what they're trying to do. You may not like their moves, but I'm pretty sure that's not going to influence the direction they take.

Names! We need names we recognize regardless of the cost!

Some people really don't get it, do they?
They haven't dumped a ton of money into free agency, and they have found guys who turned out to be players who are part of the foundation of the future. For what they spent on Gerhart and Watson, it's more or less a rental to see what they might be able to offer. If they don't prove themselves valuable to the team, they're gone, and we haven't wasted a ton of cap space in taking an extended look at these guys. As you pointed out, the same process has proven to be effective with guys like Marks, but you don't hear the whiners bringing those moves up.

Couldn't agree more brother. Caldwell is trying too hard to be a trend starter as opposed to a successful NFL GM. You can't just "build through the draft"... I mean i think the majority of the roster should be young guys but you need experienced veterans in key positions if you want a chance at even making the playoffs. Look back at the history of the NFL... have you ever seen a team make it to the SB with a roster as young as ours?... didn't think so

You get veterans in key positions by drafting and playing young guys.

We're not trying to be the seed/ creators of these veterans.. we need to be signing guys that are already veterans

I agree with the premise that if you have 1st and 2nd year players who are starters, it should be good for your team down the road. However, if some of those "starters" wouldn't be starting on any other roster, thats not a good sign for your team.

LOL. According to Dave Caldwell they absolutely are trying to "seed" veterans. He must have said it a hundred times. SMH. What the heck do you think "build through the draft" means?
They have also stated they will be signing more veterans in FA this year than last, so you'll get your wish in the offseason.
