A veteran here and there and you probably have a few less blown coverages, a few less missed tackles, fewer routes run incorrectly. Individually those players arent difference makers, but given the ways we have lost, you can see how itmihht add up to make a difference.
Quote:You miss the point. They werent a quality team until stumbling into russell wilson
So Wilson magically turned them into a quality team? He's responsible for the absolute exceptional scouting and drafting, resulting in Pro Bowlers and SB MVPs taken after the 4th round?
Oh, okay.

Oh, okay.
Where were they before wilson? As a team? Record wise? Because that's what matters.

But this assumes no player drafted by Seattle before Wilson contributed to their Super Bowl.
Golden Tate was drafted in 2010, two seasons before Wilson.
Russell Okung and James Carpenter were drafted in 2010-2011 respectively.
Red Bryant was lauded for his play and leadership with Seattle, but he was drafted in 2007, some 6 seasons before Wilson.
LBs Malcolm Smith and KJ Wright were drafted the year before Wilson, as was CB Richard Sherman.
Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor and Walter Thurmond were all drafted in 2010-two years before Wilson.
Sometimes it takes guys a while to develop.
Sometimes it takes a while for the team to get it together.
It doesn't mean the draft wasn't important before Wilson, or that the team didn't benefit from those drafts until Wilson.

They were a young and hungry team that had a lot of talent, but needed consistent QB play. Then they got it.
In Wilson's rookie year, he threw for 26 TDs, 10 INTs and 3,100 yards. That's good, but it's not like he's Peyton and immediately transformed the team.
Stop blaming Caldwell for possible busts. Remember when any rookie would come in the first time and light the league on fire? Then few games later would look lost? That's not Dave, that's the coaches breaking a promising player. We need better coaching. Either Gus and co need to learn from a mistake they are doing, or we need new coaches. So many guys started well for us, now seem lost... Joeckle, Cyp, Gratz, Lee and Sanders to name a few.
Quote:All these teams you mentioned also drafted a bunch of pro bowl players on both sides of the ball to go along with their QBs so I'm not sure what your point is.
I think the unintended point is made quite well though.
The OP doesn't get it.
Quote:He didn't say the coaches are calling Bortles a bust. He was saying that he doesn't get why people are calling Bortles a bust, because he thinks the coaches are responsible for his struggles.
Thanks
Hell, not building through the draft and instead, trading up constantly is why this franchise is in the turmoil it is in. The poorly structured contracts gene gave out didn't help, although we always had a good amount of cap space.

Insightful post. ^
It was indeed a "process" in Seattle and building through the draft was a major factor.
it doesn't work if you dont draft well. We haven't drafted well. So.....common sense would tell you to try another route.....we failed at that too. picked up some HORRIBLE F.A.s in the past in Douglas, Porter, Williamson, etc.....THAT would tell you to fire the idiots making those decisions....we've done that...TWICE. Shack and Gene gone.....now DAVE is supposed to be the answer but we have the same results. the bottom line is that we have had HORRIBLE GM's....and our luck there is the root cause. Get a GM that know's what the ___ he's doing....THAT SHOULD BE PRIORITY NUMBER 1 #GoJags #FireDaveCaldwell

So borrowing on the Seattle example above, did Seattle's GM not draft well in 2010? Here is their draft from that year.

They finished 7-9.
