Quote:I really dont think we need to get rid of GUS. I really think we need to bring in an experienced Offensive Guru as OC. Gus has the team playing hard for him the players respond to him well. I look at Mike Tomlin in PIT he is not a expert in Offense or Defense he is a good motivator and great at getting the players to play for him, he does however have very solid OC and DC with experince.
Summed it up perfectly.

You mean the OC that everyone (it seems) in Pittsburgh wanted ridden out of town on a rail just three weeks ago?
So who is this Offensive Guru you speak of? Is that his official title?

One thing is clear. This rebuild is not going as planned.
We can't go into next year with the exact same coaches preaching the exact same thing.
It will yield the same results.

Quote:Joeckel and Cyp aren't Pro Bowl material, but they were reasonable picks in a weak draft. Gratz and Sanders are in the same boat. Caldwell also got Denard Robinson and McCray out of that draft. And as someone else informed me, he was stuck with Gene Smith's scouting staff in 2013. As far as I can see, Caldwell had a great draft in 2014 with a revamped scouting staff.I think Gratz is not good. Cyprien only missed the Dez Bryant cause Gratz was beaten so bad (on both TD's actually). Dez was doing nothing on McCray, but as usual Gratz couldn't hold his own with grabbing or cheating in some way. Its no cooincidence that Bryant became a huge factor once he switched CB's

Nobody and I mean nobody should even mention the word playoffs and Jags in the same sentence.
btw, what is the opposite of playoffs?

5 rookies on offense. 5! I don't know if Gus is the answer but Belichick couldn't win with 5 rookies on one side of the ball. Its amazing this "post-grad" offense can put up 14-17 points in the NFL every week.

Ficsh may have a good offensive mind for developing plays but he cannot call a NFL game, he cannot adjust to the flow of the game. we are down 30 points and he is still running the ball.

Going as well as the rebuild of Iraq.

Quote:My expectation would be year 3 which is next year...I'm not saying we will got 10-6 or anything of that nature, but I believe with another off season and draft, the team will be more competitive and put some wins on the board...Not garbage wins against bottom feeders either...I think next year will be the year in which Dave's first draft start to show their salt.I bet you said the same thing last year...This looks exactly like a pre-season prediction thread from the summer.
..Mr, Kahn said in an interview in London that we will be active in free agency and we have the luxury of lots of cap space that not many teams have, and that some teams won't be able to sign all their free agents, which leads me to believe we will be doing some patching in FA...

lol, I guess no one can argue with that.

Quote:well you are certainly in the minority then...several articles have floated around about a couple of our players and how well they are playing...the defensive line has improved from where it's been for years...we have more sacks this year than we have had in years...Bortles can move the ball better than any QB since Garrard...I'd say that in itself is improvement
The defensive line and sacks improvement was because of three new players, and Miller getting healthy. It had nothing to do with coaching.
Bortles being on the roster also has nothing to do with coaching.
What players from last year have the coaching staff improved? All I see is Evans.

DRob, McCray. Sanders blew his opportunity this off-season.

This offseason better be of epic proportions if we're going to be decent next year

In fairness to Gratz, Dez Bryant is a tough guy to cover. But I was only arguing that Caldwell's 2013 draft wasn't so bad, and that Gratz was a reasonable 3rd round pick out of a poor draft. He has done well at times, not so well at others. I thought he played better last year, so maybe a nagging injury is the problem in his case.

We probably have to overpay for average to decent veterans, but I don't care - it's something that will need to be done.
Give me a few LBs, DBs, O-Linemen, TE if available

DRob played very little last year because of numbness in his hand. We don't know how good he might have been last year had he been healthy, so there's no evidence that his improvement has anything to do with coaching. I thought McCray looked good last year in spot duty. Has he improved, or just getting a chance to show what he could already do last year?

Again, no offensive guru is coming here. Bortles isnt exactly a sure thing to work with, plus its just the nature of being a bad small market team nobody cares about. We are stuck with project coaches as well as players. Thats who we are. Its who we will always be. All we can do is hope for the best.

Quote:The only analogy I can think of is that a house is being built...The foundation is being built and the floor laid, and people are trying to move in already as if it's a finished project and want to start firing all the contractors because it's not finished when they knew it would take a long time to be completed...
I think a better analogy goes something like this:
Gus is the guy doing the foundation work and rough carpentry, and some unskilled observers (fans not on the Gus juice) are wondering why there are major cracks in the concrete and the posts are not quite vertical or level. Though not journeyman, they can see that the quality and attention to detail of the groundwork being laid is poor.
Along come some other unskilled observers (fans drunk on the Gus juice) who say the construction project must be completed before it gets judged.
If you hired a plumber to do some remodeling work on your bathroom and 20 minutes into the job your house has 2" of standing water on an entire floor...do you let him continue working and say nothing about all your rotting carpet because he told you it would take him an hour to finish?
