Quote:Remember the conversation was puttting up number not winning. Favre by the way Sterling Sharpe and Donald Driver. Jennings was dominant before his injury.
With Favre I was thinking of Driver, Freeman and even Jennings. Were any of them considered "can't miss" stud WR at the time of their drafting? I don't remember it if they were. My recollection was that those 3 became what they developed into via Favre. Sterling Sharpe may have been a bit higher on the blue chip scale at the time of drafting.
Quote:But ask yourself is that Hurns or a by product of Bortles ability to push the ball down the field. I think it's the latter.
He dominated a half against the Eagles with Henne...

So that one half told you he is a top level wideout?
Hurns looks about as legit as an UDFA rookie can look. Still - it's hard to quantify any rookie as a reliable "weapon."
You guys both have valid points.
fun facts:
Quote:Hurns has 29 catches for 466 yards and five touchdowns. Within the next several weeks he can take over top spots on several charts. He needs:
- Four receptions to move into first place on the list of most receptions by an undrafted player in a single season in team history.
- Eleven receptions to move into first place on the list of most career receptions by an undrafted player in team history.
- Sixty-nine receiving yards to move into first place on the list of most receiving yards by an undrafted player in team history

What about league history? :woot:

Haha. Good question. I just copied something quickly from DiRocco's blog.

Best I could find:
Wayne Chrebet: 1995
62 Receptions for 726 yards and 4 Tds.

Yup, that's exactly what i said.
No, it was in response to your Bortles going downfield comment. He did it with Henne too. Henne, to clarify, you know, capt checkdown himself.
Bottome line: I think Hurns is a legit threat, you don't. Got it.

I think you are understating what a threat is. He's solid but defenses are not losing sleep over playing him. He may become that in the future though but right now he is a solid guy.
I see you think he is on par with Antonio Brown. Got it.
Quote:You can only go by what we've seen.
Blake seemed more apt to go down the field in preseason and his first few appearances in regular games. Since that point it does look as if Blake has been reigned in somewhat. I can't say for sure if thats on Blake or if that is Fisch-induced, but if I had to guess I'd say it was probably Fisch induced since Blake's first instincts were to attack the whole field and then that trended back as time went on. The offense also looked similar with Henne back there. To me that suggests the OC wanting a certain type of short pass dominated offense.
No, it's because opposing teams don't scout and gameplan in the preseason. As they started gathering tape on Bortles in the regular season they picked up on his tendencies, and took away his most comfortable reads. Then, obviously, you play umbrella coverage, force everything underneath, force Bortles to string together long drives, do things that aren't comfortable for him, and patiently wait for him to make a rookie mistake.
People don't seem to grasp that NFL defensive coordinators are actually well paid and good at what they do.
I think he's a top 20 - 25 receiver in this league. I think he provides Bortles with a legit threat.

I don't think he is that good right now but we will just have to disagree.

Mind you, this is with Henne and a rookie QB:
35th total yards
12th in Avg with at least 20 receptions
13th TDs
15th 20+ yard rec
4th 40+ yard rec
This also includes TEs and RBs, not just WRs which further impresses. He's also not always lined up as #1 or 2. I will agree to disagree with you.

How many other people are he tied with in those statistically categories?
There are people under him in those categories like Brandon Marshall and Dewayne Bowe. He is not better than those guys.

If you went by place, for instance, he'd be tied for 6th in TDs, Tied for 7th in 20+, tied for 3rd in 40+ etc.
He's better than Dwayne Bowe.
Quote:Lol okay you got it.
Dwayne Bowe, are you serious? Dude was over the hill years ago. Hasn't caught a single TD pass all season.
