Rams and Bills look like the only winnable games for the Raiders.
In fact let's take a look at the schedules for each of the teams.
Red means highly unlikely to win (-2 points)
Orange means unlikely to win (-1 point)
Green means possible win (1 point)
Blue means likely to win (3 points)
(Current wins are worth 5 points)
Oakland Raiders:
vs Broncos
@ Chargers
vs Chiefs
@ Rams -- (COMMON GAME)
vs 49ers
@ Chiefs
vs Bills
@ Broncos
Points: -7
Jaguars:
vs Cowboys
@ Colts
vs Giants
vs Texans
@ Ravens
vs Titans (COMMON GAME)
@ Texans
Points: 7
Jets:
vs Steelers
@ Bills
vs Dolphins
@ Vikings
@ Titans
vs Patriots
@ Dolphins
Points: 2
Buccaneers:
vs Falcons (COMMON GAME)
@ Redskins
@ Bears
vs Bengals
@ Lions
@ Panthers
vs Packers
vs Saints
Points: 2
Titans:
@ Ravens
vs Steelers
@ Eagles
@ Texans
vs Giants
vs Jets (COMMON GAME)
@ Jaguars (COMMON GAME)
vs Colts
Points: 12
FALCONS:
@ Buccaneers
@ Panthers
vs Browns
vs Cardinals
@ Packers
vs Steelers
@ Saints
vs Panthers
Points: 8
Rams:
@ Cardinals
vs Broncos
@ Chargers
vs Raiders (COMMON GAME)
@ Redskins
vs Cardinals
vs Giants
@ Seahawks
Points: 8
So I'd rank the likelihood of the team getting the first pick:
1. Oakland Raiders
2. New York Jets
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
4. Jacksonville Jaguars
5. Atlanta Falcons
6. St. Louis Rams
7. Tennessee Titans
Most important games for determining who gets the first pick next week:
Atlanta Falcons @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The winner of this game will take a big drop. A win by the Falcons almost drops them out of the race.
It could be interesting... But don't think there's much hope of a big trade.
You would think that Mariota simply goes to the team which finishes third, assuming it's either the Jets, the Bucs or the Titans. There would only be a trade if one of teams a bit lower gets so desperate they want to move ahead of that third placed team to grab him.
And if that's the case, I don't think we get a kings ransom.
For one thing, they will only want to move up a couple of places. And also, they can afford to play us and the Raiders off against each other, to get the best deal, knowing neither of us will pick the Quarterback.

That's a well thought out prediction.
Although I think the Titans will end up picking a lot higher than the Rams
I'm assuming the Raiders strength of schedule will hurt them if a Draft Pick tiebreaker results.
I can't see the Jags drafting first, top 5 is more than likely but first will probably be the Jets, Bucs or Raiders.
The term "Suck for the Duck" has very little room for spelling errors. I think I'll stay off of this thread when I'm drinking.
Eleventh Doctor ---- I like your analogy but how the heck do the Cowboys in London result in a (-2) whereas games @ Indy and @ Ravens result in (-1) each ? I personally think we have a better chance to beat Dallas within an injured Romo then to go up and beat the colts or the ravens away from home. At minimum, they should have the same deduction amount.
I think the chances of winning against Dallas were made before we knew Romo might be injured for that game.

If the draft ends up where these teams are currently positioned, I'm thinking #2 is the best position to be at. Everyone knows that the Raiders aren't going QB at #1 and the Jags at #2 and the Jets are very much needy for a QB at #3. If you want a QB you'll have to leapfrog the Jets and to get the best value you'll be better off dealing with the Jags at #2 vs the Raiders at #1.

We need to stick with BB. I'm telling you, he is going to be good. He needs to proper coaching, and a good off season. The dude was thrown into the fire, but you can see his skill set on the field. Chad 3 and out Henne could only hope for BB production.

If we get the first pick, I hope we trade it for some more picks.

Agreed completely.
I don't think anyone in this thread advocates for the abandonment of the Blake Bortles project. If they do, I am certainly not among that group.
It is my hope if we end up with the top pick overall, we trade down and get a bunch of picks.

Apologies.
Somehow I missed this post.
I understand your rationale, but I don't think that is how it'll play out.
I think if the Raiders and Jaguars end up 1 & 2, the Raiders would be in a more advantageous position. Teams in need of a franchise QB will be in competition with each other. I think a team would be willing to spend the capital to move up one more spot to get the guy they want.
I think the only way the Jaguars (or Raiders)benefit by picking 2nd in terms of trade down potential is if a team falls in love with Jamies Winston and is willing to overlook the off field stuff.
Jets will be needing to go after a QB and will probably be willing to move to get where they need to to grab the top one.
I expect us to go pass rush with the first pick.
