Quote:this isn't about how much you can bench to impress your buddies.  this is about running.  speed is what it is.  you have it or you don't.  you are going to find that he will never get back what he was in college.  watch.

it's not like he went from nothing at all to playing in the game.  he has had a couple weeks of practice now to get his legs back underneath him.  that is more than enough time to be able to sprint 100% in shorts distances which is all he is asked to do.

Wow, so much conviction.  It's weird then, that track and field athletes even train.  What's the point?

Ha, exactly what I was thinking. Someone tell Usain Bolt quick, he can stop training and chill in the spa.
Quote:He doesn't look good this year at all.  He caught 45+ passes last year, bummer.

Missing training camp does that.

A-Rob seems to be doing ok
You all do realize that, because of our offseason, we now have more talent at the position and he's dropped way down the depth chart.  He's not as good, compared to the other receivers on the team, as he was last year.  Not many snaps = not many catches.

This, case closed.
Ace is our #5 WR.  He just isn't getting the snaps.  Why would people think he has lost his speed in only his 2nd NFL season.

I agree, but that being said, if he doesn't provide a spark on special teams, his days are numbered here in Jax.
I am waiting for Lee to start returning punts.  If that happens Sanders is gone after this year...

they're also trying to shave a few hundredths off their 100 M dash.... totally different

and also, Ace hasn't been training the past 4 weeks?  he wasn't doing anything during training camp?

he could chill for a few weeks and come back... and STILL BE FAST.  it wouldn't take 10 weeks or whatever these people think to get back to where he was or at least close to it.

Of course he would still be fast, but you're arguing that training doesn't affect speed.

it doesn't for the most part.  the guy who trains the most is not going to be the fastest.  it doesn't work like that.  it's not like football players by week 16 are faster than ever and gain speed throughout their careers.

all I said was that it should only take a couple weeks for Ace to get his legs back.  not that everybody on the team can sit around and be at their best.

Ace is not going to suddenly rediscover his burst in a couple weeks.  He's been back and training for over a month now. ha how much longer does he need?  it's gone.  the burst is gone due to who knows what or it just was never there at the NFL level.

Ace has only played about 20 snaps on offense and been targeted maybe 4 times.  So let's not read to far into that.

His punt returning needs to get better.  Considering he missed most of the offseason and 4 games, I'm cutting him a little slack, but he absolutely needs to show us a bit more in the return game.

No it doesn't work like that but relative to one's own speed, it most certainly works like that.

As to the second part, I'm more more inclined to agree with the bolded.

In regards to Ace, I think his biggest issue with punt returning is that he goes down with the slightest arm tackle.

he looked fine last year is the thing.

the idea that training and actual game action doesnt make you better is ridiculous.

relative to one's own speed, it should only take a couple weeks to get their legs if they, for example, take four weeks off.  at some point you will plateau and nothing is going to make you noticeably faster.  im not denying that continuous hard work will increase stamina and durability, but as far as speed/quickness go, it is what it is.

Ace looks noticeably slower IMO.  I predict that wont change.

That's not helping him, for sure.

I also think he needs to be able to cut laterally without coming to a complete stop first.  He needs more vertical momentum in his returns. He could avoid that first and second guy sometimes without the "full-stop-jump-cut" move he loves so much.  It's a great move, but he needs to grow the arsenal a bit, IMO.

again, Ace has been back and training for a month now....

Better?  is that what I said?  he wont get faster.  i'll guarantee you that.
