I was fixing to flame you...

Quote:Fox let me ask you this would we have been better taking Sammy Watkins and Derek Car?
We dont know what the future will be. We could have had Big Ben, JJ Watt and others...so in hindsight...yes our drafts were bad.

But if youre talking as far as how it is presently? It would be hard to argue taking Watkins and Carr, but there is another player who would have to come into the equation, its not a bogo deal. But, its time that will tell that
Yep....you got me at first. I had a few of those fools close to me at the game, cranked up when he took off running and then fumbled.

how soon they forget henne could never make it past the 50 yard line.

Meh....BB5 will be ok, he moves the ball more learning than others have done having had years of experience.

While there might be a few QBs that you can tell early on, that they probably aren't going to be very good, 5 starts in is way to early to even consider making a determination.

He needs a lot more experience playing against NFL defenses before we can determine what kind of QB he will become.

I know it's painful to watch at times, but he is a rookie on a team with a whole lot of rookies on offense, and this is what it looks like sometimes.

There will be some good/great plays, but unfortunately, there will probably be a lot more bad plays by all the rookies and other young players on offense.

That's just how it is right now.

For those of you expecting more, expect to be disappointed.
Nobody wanted Henne, that was probably his wife and relatives trolling the board.

I liked the pick when we made it and a lot of people who gets paid to scout and critique the draft didn't like it at all. Guess they're probably right. Caldwell better hope it pans out because that will be two top three picks that looks shaky for him.

Bruce Arians liked the pick, and he's one of the best coaches in the league right now.
Henne (Michigan Grad) is just like Tom Brady (Michigan Grad).  He needs 6 or 7 years post graduation to be effective.

We need to either start Henne next year or trade him for a 1st round pick.  Who doesn't want a Tom Brady on their team ...

Those draft "experts" didn't like the pick because the Jags made them look stupid by not picking the player they predicted them to take. A lot of those draft analysts are very prideful and don't like to be proven wrong. Keep in mind that some of them were almost certain that it was either going to be Kahlil Mack, Sammy Watkins, or (Lord forbid) Johnny Manziel. When that didn't go according to plan, well....just look at ESPN's reaction.

Besides the touchdown and interception ratio blortles numbers has been just as good or better in every category as derek carr with lesser talent around him and games played. So who asked this question pleased stop drinking because it's not good for you.
http://yesnetwork.stats.com/fb/playersta...532&team=2: Sammy Walkins

http://yesnetwork.stats.com/fb/playersta...89&team=30: Allan Robinson

Their numbers is on par with one another so i think we're fine without sammy walkins because allan robinson is doing his job.

In addition to this let me say this for the bortles bashers right now look at how many times carr has been sacked compared to bortles and bortles pocket presences is very elite as well.

Has the OP settled down yet? It's now Tuesday move along.

You got me on this thread....  thanks for the entertainment and then a spark of debate.

I've been wrong a lot when it comes to my fandom and the Jaguars.. but I have a really good feeling about BB.  He looks the part and I'm betting he will grow and develop.  It takes time to learn the game.  I shudder to think of what the offensive stats would be with Chad running the position.  At least he is moving the ball and that is a good measuring stick for the early part of the season.

I think he is good at checking to pass plays.  He needs to learn to keep with a run play or check to the run.  Having DRob develop will give him confidence to make those decisions.  I think trust and time playing together will help overall.  Keep in mind that Peyton Manning skirts the practice restrictions by working unsanctioned practice time with receivers.  He is a student of the game and can coach them up on their sight adjustments.

It wouldn't help much if BB tried to put in extra time with the receivers because they are all rookies.

I agree with you.
He's just trying to do too much. I think the pressure got in his head the last couple of weeks. Indecisive, not protecting the ball, not giving up on the play... these are all correctable with experience and reps with the unit. It's not like he gave up and went into a shell sacking himself etc... (Gabbert/Henne). His turnovers really cost us in a game we had control of. But, there is no other QB I'd rather have out there Henne or Manziel/any other rookie.

Quote:The turnovers come with Bortles being a rookie. Some people want to say this is an excuse but it's reality. This year will ultimately pay dividends although he'll also have to put in a lot of work in the off season. I knew this would happen and was a little concerned about his confidence but he's reacting well and showing he's mentally tough.

I think (and I'm really hoping I turn out to be right) that Blake has the work ethic needed to succeed at the position. The benefit of suffering through all of these horrible games now is that he'll have a lot of game tape on himself to watch during the offseason. He'll also have tape from 6 division games that he's played in to study for next year.

People are tired of hearing "wait until next year" but, until Bortles shows me otherwise, I'm pretty excited to see what he can with the rest of this season and an entire offseason under his belt as the starter. He doesn't have issues moving the ball up and down the field, and I think once our offense learns to finish drives, we're all in for a real treat. I think/pray this offseason will finally be the turning point for this team.

I'm hoping this is something Bortles and our WRs will do this offseason. At the minimum, they would be able to work on routes/timing for the plays they already know. And if Blackmon decides he wants to play again, some unsanctioned player practice would help him to get up to speed mentally and physically before next preseason.

How do you figure one QB makes way less mistakes than the other. Derek Car also had a game 4 TD, look at the QB ratings. Right now you have to say Carr is playing better just do to the fact he makes less mistakes

not to mention Carr throws a much better deep ball.

How quickly fans forget how horrible Henne really was. I referred to them as Henne and outs, he could never move the ball and would often three and out. Bottles moves this offense up and down the field and has tremendous upside that will only get better with time. He needs to work on consistency and decision making which are common areas for rookies. Bottles is our starter and our future, Henne is the past and anyone crying for him is a knee jerk fan who doesn't know football. Rookie QBs make mistakes, just enjoy the ride because it's gonna get better.
This season should be a complete "live and die" with Bortles.. Next season is where it should really matter with a season under his belt..
