Quote:I'm hoping this is something Bortles and our WRs will do this offseason. At the minimum, they would be able to work on routes/timing for the plays they already know. And if Blackmon decides he wants to play again, some unsanctioned player practice would help him to get up to speed mentally and physically before next preseason.

I think they will work together in the offseason.  At a minimum, I think Blake is the kinda of professional that will work with a Quaterback coach to improve.  The current indication is he knows what he needs to do.

We can all see the lapses in Mechanics and the ball coming out with a wobble, but honestly he can overcome with time.  His random flashes are an improvement over anything we've seen in a 6 years.
Quote:How do you figure one QB makes way less mistakes than the other. Derek Car also had a game 4 TD, look at the QB ratings. Right now you have to say Carr is playing better just do to the fact he makes less mistakes

not to mention Carr throws a much better deep ball.

I don't understand why folks are too sensitive to admit Carr has played better.

That doesn't mean you're a Bortles hater or not a Jag fan.  That just makes you objective and honest.

That also doesn't mean Bortles can't have the better career in the long run.

For the same reason people don't like saying Luck is a top 5 QB and is light years ahead of Blake..... Teal glasses.
This week 11 Bye week is really hurting our players.

It would be awesome if Blake could have more time to sit in the film room and work with his WRs and mechanics. I expect that from week 12-17, we will see a whole new Blake after he has time to actually sit and learn.

I didn't realize pick sizes and butt safeties made you a top 5 QB...

Agreed, I think we'll see a whole new Blake once the game slows down for him, which takes time. He has some elite franchise QB traits you simply can't teach, his pocket presence and poise is amongst the best I've seen from a rookie Qb, ever. I just feel Blake has that "it" factor, he doesn't fold when he makes a mistake, that's a sign of a guy that is mentally tough, that's probably the most important trait to have if you're going to succeed at this level.

lol If you don't think he's a top 5 QB, you're delusional. Peyton, Brady, Rodgers, Brees and Luck.

If the Colts didn't have Andrew Luck, I'm not sure if that team wins 3 games, that is a bad roster especially on the defensive side of the ball.

The Bye Week will help him adjust to the speed of the game I think.  Which will cut back on bad decisions.  I don't think it helps though that our Bye week comes off the London game, but I think we'll still see improvement after the Bye.  Let's hope our Defense remains as tough as they've looked the past couple of weeks.

After the Bye we have 4 division games, the Giants and Ravens.

That's 6 games for us to really see if Blake took the time during that week to focus on his mechanics and really cut down on his mistakes. I think those 6 weeks are going to be crucial.

Right now, he gets no time to work on his mechanics. He's basically just planning for the next weeks game.
Jaguars really need to stay away from these late-riser QB's.  I don't exactly think Bortles will be a bust per say, and I don't think he can get any worse than he has been.  But I just think he'll be average, but I guess that's better than what we've had in the past.  I feel as though, no QB can succeed in Jacksonville right now.  Defense is improving....but it's still meh.  We just need something different here, but I don't know what that is.  I feel like our team is joke and it's going to take something dramatic to change all of that.

So you've come to this conclusion after 5 games? The patience of fans (and society in general) is embarrassing.

Bortles wasn't a late riser, and I think he'll be a bit better than average.  He's still adjusting to the speed of the game.  I think he can easily still be a good, even great QB.  He's got what it takes, he just needs time.  Except for Shorts, his receivers are pretty much rookies.  We've basically taken a college offense and put it out there, proving that yes, even the worst NFL team could probably beat the best college team.

But you remember what Dave Caldwell said he took Bortles believing he would have been the best QB coming out in 2015. I personally thought Bryce Petty, Jameis Winston, and Marcus Mariota were better and more productive in college

Tim Tebow as more productive in college too.

Yes, as long as he's on this team, average.  And average isn't a bad thing by today's NFL QB standards, they're actually getting paid quite a lot.  But I just cannot see anyone standing out for this team unless some things change....but I'm not sure what that is.

And patience lol?  I don't even want to begin with that.  I think all of us have been patient for quite some time to deserve better than a 1-7 start.

Some things change....like experience?

Meh. Maybe, we'll see next year.  But last year, people said next year.  And next year w/ new rookies, people will say next year...and so on.

The key difference here is that if this current trend continues and our young bucks keep improving (as they have been), we won't be trotting a team with an inordinate amount of rookie starters onto the field week in and week out. I feel where you're coming from. I think we all do but unlike in years past where a lot of optimism here may have been wishful thinking and/or forced, for the first time in a long time I am genuinely excited to watch these kids turn into a contending team together.

It's OK to be frustrated but let's not lose sight of what's happening on the field. These kids are improving as a collective. We've gone from lopsided blowout losses to "we had/have a shot at this." Ultimately, we all want the wins to pile up. The team does also and truly believe, for the first time in a long time, that they will.

I hear ya, man.  I really appreciate your response.  The last two games we're a bit more stressful than the blowouts for some reason, but we'll see how we rebound next week.
