No way I would trade Bortles for any draft pick. I don't care if Luck was coming out this year because there's always a chance what you've seen in college just doesn't translate.

That said, if you don't believe Jameis is guilty of the rape he is accused of, I can't see how you could evaluate what we knew about college Bortles over Jameis. Jameis has been more accurate, has a stronger arm, and has been more consistent in making the right reads. He's also just as much a leader on the sidelines and competitor in clutch situations.
I'd trade him only because it's been so much fun over the past 5 years looking for a franchise QB.  We could always extend Henne's contract -- he's solid.  Great footwork.  Great team leader.

5 years? What Jags games have you been watching?

5 years, lol.
Not just no but HELL no..
Maybe only if we can keep Lindsey. All joking aside, I'll add what others have already said. Jameis flashes sometimes, but im still not sold. Flashes in the nfl trump college flashes. If we didnt know what Bortles could do in the NFL and they were both entering yhe draft at the same time, then I believe Jameis would be the better pick. That's if you dont count the off field issues. Avalibilty trumps talent now days with so many players having off the field issues and being suspended.
Someone else had already said it but I see this being a Ryan Leaf kind of pick coming in 2015 and I would hope the Jags would never ever think about doing it(which i know they wont) I say stick with Blake. Winston I have very little faith in making it in the NFL, maybe not because of his poor skills in the big league like others but more so because he will find himself on the wrong side of things IMO. But time will tell.

If they were both in the same draft I would take Winston, but just drafting Bortles and trading him the next year for somebody else isn't ideal. If Bortles doesn't work out there will be another qb 4 years from now to draft for a new gm. Might as well ride this out and see how's it pans.

Quote:What big time game has Winston not shown up in?

You think he played well against Auburn?  He looked shell shocked to me at times.

I think he led his team down with less than a minute to win the game. It wasn't his best game, but he did it when it mattered.

Lol, whatever makes you feel better.  Overall, he had a terrible game.

Stats courtesy of tomahawknation.com: Before #Noles hid play calls w/ towels, Winston was 6-15 for 62 yards. After? 15-20 for 237 yards.

Hard for anyone to play QB when the DBs are getting fed the route tree on most plays. When the head coach states it's his fault the signals were getting stolen in post game interviews, you have to at least lend that a little credence.

What is he? 20 and 0? Lol whatever makes you feel better. Pretty sure you didn't watch the championship game.
This is such a silly topic.

I am an FSU fan, and there is no way in hell I would trade Bortles for Winston.

Actually I did, and I was able to form an unbiased decision....its obvious here who are die hard FSU fans and who are able to step back and look at it rationally.  I'm no Jameis hater, I want FSU to win the national title....but he hasn't looked his best in high profile games.  If you aren't at least able to admit that, then there is no point in having a discussion.

The funny thing about this statement is the bolded part.  I am a die hard gator fan, and have been my whole life.  If this isn't an unbiased opinion then I don't know what is.

It is just I am able to look at the whole picture and not scurry to the stat book hoping I can live off of that.  He brought his team back from a 20 something point deficit, and led his team on the final drive to win the game.

Not to mention he won the MVP of that game.  So explain to me how he didn't look good in that game.  Do they normally give MVPs to players who don't look that good?

Watch the first half.  He look flustered.

You want to know who the MVP of that game was?  Jimbo.  Jimbo is a great coach, and adjusts well at halftime of games.  He feeds a good game plan in the second half and thats what win games.  Same thing happened against Notre Dame.  Second half flipped from the first.

Edit:  I'm not saying you're wrong, but neither am I.  It's an opinion....as much as my opinion may not be right, the same can be said for yours.

No.  But if we're at the #1 pick, please tell me there is a team desperate for Winston.

Quote:First of all, my answer is absolutely not. I'm just shocked that a FSU (and Jaguars) fan on the College Football forum I frequent is saying things like this:

"No he isn't. Love my Jags, and I think Bortles was a good pick, but he doesn't even inhabit the same football universe as Winston."

and

"And if I turn out right am I biased? There's actually very little bias in my projection. Unless, you can point me to all the scouts and what not who have ever mentioned Winston and Bortles as having comparable talents. I've watch Bortles, and your rot he could potentially be a top 3 QB, but according to expert opinions Jameis does just about everything better (off-field behavior no included)."

Is this FSU fan off his rocker or is this a common train of thought by FSU fans?

I wouldn't trade Bortles for any 1st round #1 pick of the future, even multiple ones. I'm partial to FSU, and I do like Winston (off-field aside). But....there's always a matter of risk taking a QB in the draft. No matter how highly regarded these prospects are, they all carry a certain risk.

We already took on that risk in drafting Blake. I like what I have seen and have confidence that he's the right guy. There is no reason to assume that risk again by dumping him and hitching our wagon on another QB who's yet to play a snap in the NFL...regardless of how high their potential is projected to be.

While he struggled early on....Jameis beat the #5 team ND team that was dominating the Noles OL all game long with barely any running game. The Noles had 50 yards total....and that's counting Winston's 8. When a QB has to put a team on his back like he had to do against ND and get the win, that's a good game for him.

People fail to grasp that even though ND was #5, they were #5 because they are ND. They haven't been as good as their ranking this year. North Carolina had a shot to beat them. In South Bend. North Carolina...
