Love BB.. while this was a bad game for him in a few respects, the rest of the team carried him which says alot about him too, and the rest of the team. It was a team win in every regard.


I would just like to see some nice deep throws to a wide open receiver. He has missed on a few of those now. I'm still worried we are going to the the quick out a bit too often. A pick 6 will lose a game faster than anything. I'd rather see an extra shot downfield.


I'm actually glad he had a bad game (and we still won). He has had too many high praises, there's nothing like a humbling to get back down to earth.


Next week will be very revealing for Bortles. Will we see a bit tighter decision making, and better accuracy over the top or more of the same type of mistakes we saw in this game.


Not the least bit worried either way. If BB had had even an average game, this would have been a blowout

haven't noticed this more than most other QB's. 

I know bortles played bad yesterday...but I have a funny question has he improved? To me improvement would be 0 int in a game, take care of the football. Again when people say Peyton Manning threw 27 int his rookie year

what they don't talk about is the games Peyton went 30/48 330 3 TD 0 Int. That what I want to see from Blake.

That's probably the most important thing to keep in mind.

 

We've got a gunslinger.  He'll have ups and downs early, and the INTs will pass.

That was also Manning's 7th career start.

Was Garrards low INT season an "improvement"?

 

No.

 

It was simply an anomaly, from a year where they did everything manageable to ensure he protected the football.  You don't want a franchise QB playing that tight.

 

This season Bortles' INT ratio (and the ratio is what's important) will not be good.  Closer to 3/1 would be good a year from now, and put him among the elite.

He held the ball a bit too long on a couple of plays too.


One thing I was very happy to see was he avoided getting hit (at all) very well. A quiet, but very important improvement.

I don't see a windup that's troubling there.  It's the footwork.  Which... can cause the other.

 

I see a QB putting more "mustard" on the throw with his arm because he's hopping.

I didn't say that.  it's just something the haters have latched onto.  I would like to see improvement in his mechanics/feet (wind up and release is kinda what it is, wont improve)

It was a great win in so many categories. Lots of good things to comment about without sending "Bortles is bad" to the top every 45 seconds. Bortles is good.. very good. And so was the Defense! And D.Rob, A.Rob, Telvin, Poz, and on aond on.

I agree with this. He has a little to work on mechanically yet.

Because he was. He leads in INTs thrown in the league, yet didnt start the season. Cant sugar coat everything. Even he admits he played poorly  ( is that sound better than bad?) 

If the D hadnt played lights out and the Browns put up a couple of TDs, we lose. 

Bortles will be good ( hopefully) but for now? He's on the huge learning curve. Some passes were good, some were pretty bad, decision wise.

Bortles gets all the free passes here because of the "possibilities".

He eventually will be the one who has to win the game.

Someone mentioned  we beat the Browns last year too...with Henne.

 

Not trying to bash the kid, just be realistic. The Favre gunslinger comparisons or Mannings first year comparison are so premature. He needs to develop. Plain and simple. The team knew it and said as much. Their plan was not to get him in this early. There will be growing pains, but to call a spade a spade shouldn't upset anyone.

These mistakes were going to be made now or next year. Glad they are happening now.
