He throws too many interceptions for anybody. Rookie or vet, good or bad. Justify them how you want but I want to see him go out and win a game with a good stat line. One game where the ratio is more td's than interceptions needs to happen. Matter of fact have a game with no int's. He's played enough now, time to tighten up and start showing top 3 winning potential from here on out. My main problem with him is he throws an ugly ball. The majority of his passes are ducks. Somebody needs to help him with his spiral.

Lol.

You wanted him to start, you have to deal with the good, the bad, and the ugly. Don't start whining now. He's taking his lumps so deal with it.

He shows promise, then has a bad day when we win.  lol just chill out.  He's a rookie.  It's gonna happen.  If all you care about are stats then take a ride on the Bronco's train with Jughead leading the way.

Obviously everyone wants him to throw less interceptions. But most of us understood there will be growing pains. It's still only his 4th start man.

He did throw 2TDs and 2INTS against the colts for a 1:1 TD:INT ratio so theres that.....

He will eventually have a 250 2TD no interception game... Just gotta be patient.
"He's a rookie, its ok he throws a million interceptions." Just because I wanted him to start doesn't mean he shouldn't be reducing his mistakes. The man will tell you the same damn thing that he needs to stop and play better but somebody else says it the sensitive bunch shows up.

Ummm... What?

Of course everyone wants him to cut down on his mistakes. He definitely does throw too many interceptions but it's not like he's Jay Cutler in his 7th season or something. He just made his 4th start. He needs to be better and many believe he will.

Its been pretty well documented on this board that most QBs (even the great ones) struggle with INTs in their first year or two.  Playing QB in the NFL has to be the most difficult position to play in all of professional sports.  Avoiding pressure, going through progressions and beating the DBs who are just as good or better than your receiver is not something that happens with consistency in 4 games.
Will Blake Bortles confidence be ruined forever? Qb's are very delicate I hear...
I think he gets better. Les Miles says it's easier for young players to learn from their mistakes when you win.

I tend to agree.
he has to stop trying to force things….take the sack or throw the ball out of bounds….our defense played awesome and Denard was a beast

Quote:I know bortles played bad yesterday...but I have a funny question has he improved? To me improvement would be 0 int in a game, take care of the football. Again when people say Peyton Manning threw 27 int his rookie year

what they don't talk about is the games Peyton went 30/48 330 3 TD 0 Int. That what I want to see from Blake.

Peyton also had Marvin Harrison and Marshall faulk while bortles has Rookies
Definitely not a very good performance, but he had his moments still. Some awesome runs and that throw to Lee on the sideline was absolutely perfect. Couldn't have walked up and handed to him better than that.

through his first 6 games Manning threw 6 TDs to 14 picks. Not very good. He improved with experience. Blake will do the same.
His footwork was terrible at times yesterday, he definitely still has some work to do there.

He'll be fine.

This time last year he was gearing up to play the UCONN Huskies, and now he's prepping for the Miami Dolphins.  I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and let him play more than a handful of games.

Quote:Bortles made mistakes, but he didn't let them get to him. Keep in mind that Peyton Manning in his prime once threw 6 interceptions. That's not his rookie year, that's his prime. I'm not comparing him to Manning here. I'm saying if even one of the greatest QB's of all time can have that kind of day, then there's no reason to expect our QB not to. I have a feeling once our WR's get it together, we'll see more TD's and fewer INT's from Bortles.
Against the chargers. And he still somehow won
Ummm....no he didn't.  They lost that game 23-21.

Here's a stat line for a rookie quarterback, do you know who it is?

G/S: 16/16

Attempts/Completitions: 575/326

PCT: 56.7

Yards: 3,739

YPA: 6.5

TD/INT: 26/28

QB Rating: 71.2

Wins: 3

That stat line is from Peyton Manning's rookie season. A player that was hyped and significantly more polished coming out of college than Blake Bortles. Now I do agree that Bortles needs to cut down the INTs, but he is still learning and developing. It is why they wanted Bortles to sit his rookie year, but fate is cruel and has forced them to start him. So there are going to be ups and downs, and we have to accept that and hope he learns from them and gets better from the experience.

As for throwing an ugly ball, see Philip Rivers. If Bortles can replicate his career success to date, then we will have a QB that can help us win and contend. Throwing a beautiful ball is great, but there have been some that have ugly throws that have had decent success. But again, Bortles is still raw and learning, so maybe in time he will improve this aspect of his game.
A lot of us have unrealistic expectations.  Bortles is playing like rookie Peyton Manning.  We want him to play like 2014 Peyton Manning after 4 starts. LOL

He had a rookie day, plain and simple. He'll get better. Everyone knows that. I don't understand the jaundiced analysis.
