And even the Jordan River has bodies floatin in it.

Prophetic song.

Anyway, kind of funny to have a person living in the heart of Magic Kingdom where 50 billion tourist visit per year talking about living off the grid. Sounds like you're an Off The Grid Wannabe but can't get away from Xfinity and Starbucks. Nice try.

He never said he was a homesteader that's me I think your getting us confused.
I would just like to say that should the end of the world find me before I'm ready to find it, I intend to leave this plane of existence as I came into it: naked and screaming.

Quote:Or maybe it sounds like how every American lived a 100+ years ago. Seriously, when did being independent from Government subsidy come to equal 'cult' status in the publics mind. Shows what education is teaching: Don't live off the grid, only crazys do that, you need big brother to protect you, just like we did in Katrina. If there is one thing the government has shown time and time again, its that in a crisis, it won't be around to help when you need it the most, and you'll be on your own or at the mercy of charity.

An independant person is a smart one, the person who believes the government will take care of everything, well that's what I would call a 'cult' of ignorance.

Nope EricC85 -- you're a true homesteader and should be commended for it.

HandsomeRob86 is a wannabe that gets his panties up in a wad over a sarcastic comment that I made.   He's like the Al Gore of the environment that burns fossil fuels but talks up a good game of living off the grid (even thought he lives in the heart of the grid -- the most anti-green place on earth  ... Orlando)

No doubt --- I just listened to Eve of Destruction for the 1st time in over a year.  Great song !!!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfZVu0alU0I

The eastern world, it is explodin',
Violence flarin', bullets loadin',
You're old enough to kill but not for votin',
You don't believe in war, but what's that gun you're totin',
And even the Jordan river has bodies floatin',
But you tell me over and over and over again my friend,
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Don't you understand, what I'm trying to say?
And can't you feel the fears I'm feeling today?
If the button is pushed, there's no running away,
There'll be no one to save with the world in a grave,
Take a look around you, boy, it's bound to scare you, boy,
And you tell me over and over and over again my friend,
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Yeah, my blood's so mad, feels like coagulatin',
I'm sittin' here, just contemplatin',
I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation,
Handful of Senators don't pass legislation,
And marches alone can't bring integration,
When human respect is disintegratin',
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin',
And you tell me over and over and over again my friend,
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Think of all the hate there is in Red China!
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama!
Ah, you may leave here, for four days in space,
But when your return, it's the same old place,
The poundin' of the drums, the pride and disgrace,
You can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace,
Hate your next door neighbor, but don't forget to say grace,
And you tell me over and over and over and over again my friend,
You don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

No, no, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

You know you've made an impact when other bands like the Mamas and Papas reference you in their song .....

McGuinn and McGuire just a-gettin' higher
In L.A., you know where that's at
And no one's gettin' fat except Mama Cass

Seems like we have similar tastes in music...ya old hippy.

As far as band references..Charlie Daniels did Souths Going to do it Again and named a bunch. Molly Hatchet followed suit later with Gator Country.

Not a song but maybe more iconic. .... Sgt Peppers Album cover....welcoming the Stones.

Eve of Desruction however is probably the most prophetic song, and is relevant years after it was written, and most likely years to come. Amazing as it is sad and pathetic as to how far we haven't come.

Wow .... I was aware of the CDB & Molly Hatchet references but had no idea about the Sgt Peppers cover until now and I just googled it as well and they pinpointed the dudes shirt in the bottom right hand corner.

...  and let's not forget Sweet Home Alabama was written in response to Neil Young's Southern Man (which was about racism in the South).
We could go on and on for sure...one more that I found interesting , sadly, because I loved and still do the Fab 4..Lennon song...How do you sleep..

What he had to say: "Those freaks was right when they said you was dead."

“The sound you make is muzak to my ears”. Now them’s fightin’ words. After the Beatles split in 1970, fans were left heartbroken having to stand at the sidelines and watch the two main visionaries of the group take jabs at each other. The reason we picked this one in particular is because it’s just so painful to hear how much resentment Lennon carried towards McCartney. Besides, they just don’t make diss tracks like this anymore.

‘How Do You Sleep?’ is as barbed, biting and personal as they come but not once does Lennon make use of the F- or N-word (the latter wouldn’t make any sense in this case but that’s not the point). The reason Lennon wrote it was because he felt there were lines in some of McCartney’s songs, most notably ‘Too Many People’, that were intended as digs at him, McCartney later confirmed this to be true. If you’re wondering how other Beatles Ringo Starr and George Harrison were feeling while Lennon and McCartney were lyrically duking it out; Harrison actually played slide guitar on ‘How Do You Sleep?’, maybe to indicate whose side he was on or maybe just because he liked playing slide guitar. Starr seemed more intent on restoring the peace and visited Lennon while he was recording to tell him: “That's enough, John”.
Too Many People....a dig at Lennon

Too many people going underground,

Too many reaching for a piece of cake.

Too many people pulled and pushed around,

Too many waiting for that lucky break.

That was your first mistake,

You took your lucky break and broke it in two.

Now what can be done for you?

You broke it in two.

Too many people sharing party lines,

Too many people never sleeping late.

Too many people paying parking fines,

Too many hungry people losing weight.

That was your first mistake,

You took your lucky break and broke it in two.

Now what can be done for you?

You broke it in two.

Mm-mm-uh-uh.

Uh!

Too many people preaching practices,

Don't let 'em tell you what you wanna be.

Too many people holding back,

This is crazy, and baby, it's not like me.

That was your last mistake,

I find my love awake and waiting to be.

Now what can be done for you?

She's waiting for me
Lennons Response

"How Do You Sleep?"

So sgt. pepper took you by surprise

You better see right through that mother's eyes

Those freaks was right when they said you was dead

The one mistake you made was in your head

How do you sleep?

Ah how do you sleep at night?

You live with straights who tell you "you was king"

Jump when your mamma tell you anything

The only thing you done was yesterday

And since you've gone you're just another day

How do you sleep?

Ah how do you sleep at night?

A pretty face may last a year or two

But pretty soon they'll see what you can do

The sound you make is muzak to my ears

You must have learned something all those years

How do you sleep?

Ah how do you sleep at night?
Fascinating --- didn't realize they were throwing jabs at each other via their songs.  Quite interesting since I'm sure average fan or even the slightly above average fan has no idea.

When you start looking deep into songs from that era and the meaning behind them, they take on an entirely different perspective.

It was also responding to Young's Alabama. It should also be noted much of the lyrics from Sweet Home Alabama were tongue-in-cheek and often misinterpreted.

Interestingly, Young later apologized for being too inclusive of all Alabamans, and said rumors of a feud between him and Ronnie Van Zant were unfounded. Young loved Lynyrd Skynyrd and even gave them 3 songs, which never got recorded.

Here's Ronnie wearing a shirt featuring Neil Young:
