Quote:If he's still throwing it to the other team in the fourth quarter next year? If he gets injured? Spending a pick on a QB doesn't mean your not building around Bortles.
Actually it means exactly that, any pick that doesn't equate to filling glaring holes on your team right now are wasted picks, we got 99 problems on this team and Blake ain't 1
Quote:Seattle didn't plan on Wilson starting, but they were smart enough to keep drafting QB's and look what happened.  I don't think Washington is losing because of Cousins and I wouldn't plan on RGIII staying healthy, Washington had trade offers and was smart enough not to trade Cousins.  I don't know every teams situation, the Seahawks, Broncos, San Diego, GB, SF, Indy, those teams can afford to ignore the QB situation for now.  Then possibly ATL, NYG, other than that, what maybe Detroit.  The point is this team planned on Leftwich and Gabbert and lost years, hopefully Bortles doesn't go down that road but the possibility exists, that's why the Jags should not be scared or so confident that they don't draft a QB.

This argument is stupid. Seattle paid a bunch of money to bums like Matt Flynn and Charlie Whitehurst to either be their immediate starter(Flynn) or eventual starter(Whitehurst). If it wasn't for pure dumb luck that Flynn got hurt and Wilson was forced into playing, Seattle wouldn't be where they are now.

Also, Young was traded for, not drafted.
Quote:We're worse than the Browns.  Get a competent Vet, that works.  Yes, I also know NFL franchises now have a rookie payscale.
No I mean you don't keep drafting young QBs "just to have competition" or some bull crap. The Browns drafted weeden , then drafted Manziel. Weeden was never Bortles good out the gate and he got 2 years I believe without looking over his shoulder. Bortles has been improving. What have you been watching?
Quote:Because Blake is a guaranteed perennial pro-bowler and hall of famer?
Screw it ill say, Yes he is and will be, from what we have seen in just 3 games.  there are you satisfied :teehee:

+1  aint skeer'd
Not worried about Bortles.

Not one bit.  He's going to be good at the very least.   Probably very good.   Maybe, just maybe, great.

Quote:You're embarrassing yourself.
Sadly, this particular poster is immune to embarrassment.
Quote:Yes, he's strong and extends plays. He can make all the throws. But there is certainly no guarantee the guy is going to stop throwing INT's. Yes, the one today Hurns fell down, but there have been several other balls that could of easily been INT's if not for drops on the defenders. Not sure why everyone is so sure "we have a franchise QB." I hope this team takes another QB, I'd rather have a couple talented QB's than go down the road of passing on another Aarron Rogers because we have leftwich again.

If you can't see Bortles is going to be good...really good...I'm not sure what you're watching.

There's a filter between his ears that prevents him from recognizing this.
I wasn't thrilled about the Bortles selection because I was thinking about Jaguars history and how we don't do well selecting QBs.  I am so glad that I was wrong.  Eye test good so far.  I really don't understand why people aren't relaxing about QB play so far with the rookie.

I think we should draft a QB in the first round every year.  Just because.

Bad oline, rookie WR's and no run game.  Everything is set up for him to fail.  And despite all of that he isn't.

And the thing I like best about him. He gets the snot knocked out of him, gets back up, brushes himself off, and runs the next play.

He good. Real good.
When BB was announced on my TV for the draft, I threw a fit.  Boy was I WAY wrong.  I'll say it too.  Blake Bortles will be an ELITE QB.  If they stop giving him trash to work with, he will bring Jacksonville our first Super Bowl Win.  He even makes the trash we have look like NFL players.  Yesterday should have been BB's first win.  Shorts' fumble, Todman's drop, and Gus' coaching did the team in.  Blake made them in it until the very end.

Bingo. The really exciting part is that he is just beginning his journey. This kid is going to only get better too...barring some catastrophe, I definitely feel like we're witnessing the birth of a superstar.
Now by those saying the Jags should still draft a QB in case something happens or Bortles play declines, are you saying draft another QB in the first 2 rounds, or draft a 4th/5th round QB? I can completely agree with drafting a backup in the 4th-6th rounds and try to develop him into a good backup option that you would be comfortable starting if Bortles went down. I can't agree with drafting another QB with a high pick when there are so many other holes to fill.

I actually think the best thing for the Jags this year would be if they got the first overall pick. There are a ton of QB's from this class and somebody may be willing to trade a haul to get one. That could help turn the Jags around quickly.

Quote:I don't understand your philosophy. Are you suggesting we draft a QB with our high 1st round pick?

Quote:If there is a guy you believe could be great I wouldn't be against it.

You want to use a high 1st or 2nd round pick on a guy to be your backup QB?

So which current holes on the roster do you leave in place for another year to get this stud backup QB? Are you willing to have our secondary stay horrible for another season? What about our LBers? The oline? The RBs?

Where are you willing to leave a hole in the starting roster in order to draft a backup QB?

It's like that saying from Starship Troopers...

Rico, you're the captain until I find someone better or you get killed.

BB5 is the man until we find something better or he get's killed (metaphorically speaking).

I think he's gonna be captain for quite some time!
Thankfully we have Blake. We will most likely have a top 5 pick this year. This class is loaded at QB (Petty, Winston, Mariota, Hundley...) Hopefully we can get a team to trade up so we can fill more holes on this team.

Its sad to think about this only 6 games into the season. I honestly didn't think we would be 0-6

he's our guy for at least the next 3 years.  deal with it
