Quote:But even with the flex scheduling, if both teams are in the AFC, it must be shown on CBS. So Buffalo/New England can't be on Fox.
It's a different form of flex scheduling than the one in which the time of a game is changed. Under the TV format that was used for decades, Buffalo/ New England couldn't be on FOX. That's not the case in 2014. There probably will be a Jaguars road game in the next few seasons that will be on FOX.
Quote:That's happening with Bortles too. This is the first time I can remember that WKMG Orlando chose the Jags game over the Bucs.
Good point!
Considering that WKMG Orlando put the Jaguars on the bottom of their totem pole for eons and that the Jaguars opponent this week is far less football attractive than the Bucs opponent, the impact Blake Bortles is having in the NFL in the Orlando market is substantial. This should bode well for the Jaguars in their attempt to build the team's fan base in Central Florida.

But the Buccaneers are in the NFC, so they usually are shown on different channels. What are you complaining about?

It doesn't sound like a complaint. It's a comparison of past vs. present. The latter is vastly different than the former . It was unthinkable in the past that the CBS Station in Orlando would choose the Jaguars over the Bucs when a choice had to be made.

That is understandable. Tampa is closer to Orando than Jacksonville. There was a time when the Buccaneers were good, so WKMG had no reason not to show them when given a choice. Now they're terrible, so the only thing that can draw high ratings on WKMG is showing two local stars.

Yet, even in the many seasons following the Bucs Super Bowl win when the team was average or worse, WKMG was going to show the Bucs when they had the rights to one of their games. Wild horses couldn't have kept the Orlando TV station from going in another direction. That's all changed in 2014. Several weeks ago, you mentioned the potential impact Blake Bortles could have for the Jaguars in the Orlando market. WKMG's decision to televise the Jaguars this Sunday is tangible proof of the impact.

He is not the only one. Now it appears Storm Johnson will be our starting running back. That should help too because he also played at UCF.
Quote: My pleasure!
Except for what you mentioned regarding the double header restrictions ( good point ) and what I just expressed in my reply to JaguarsWoman, the decisions all come down to potential ratings.
I recall the years that on the Carolina Coast, the Jaguars games were usually shown because of David Garrard. The same in much of Arkansas when the Jaguars had Matt Jones in his early seasons. The same in parts of West Virginia when Byron Leftwich was the Jaguars starting QB.
Also, notice how Orlando is showing the Jaguars games now instead of the Miami/Tampa Bay games... I wonder why, it couldn't be because of a certain Ex-UCF QB, could it?

Storm Johnson adds to the Jaguars appeal in the Orlando area. But with all due respect to Storm Johnson, who was a 7th Round pick, I'm 99 % convinced that the Bucs would be shown on CBS in Orlando this Sunday if Blake Bortles wasn't starting for the Jaguars.

Not only is he a former Knight, Blake Bortles was born and raised in the Orando area.
I never understood why Orlando showed Miami instead of Jacksonville for years because both teams suck.

Except that, clearly, it can.

Then why is it that when flex scheduling is applied, we still don't see any AFC games on Fox?

The Dolphins go back to 1966. For almost 3 decades, they were the only AFC team in Florida. Couple this with the Dolphins tremendous success in the Don Shula days, they have a large fan base in a large part of Florida and in some other parts of the country as well. If the Jaguars can have a long period of success, that much more with a QB from the Orlando area, the Jaguars could easily become the most popular team in Central Florida. It's going to take time, as tradition is hard to overcome in the short term.

Because with the type of flex scheduling you're thinking of, that's NBC going to CBS or FOX and saying, "Hey, I like that game. I think I'll take it." There's no switching games between FOX and CBS in that scenario.

I mean why didn't they switch to usually showing the Jaguars when the Dolphins started sucking? They were no better than us after Dan Marino retired.

No I am thinking of the other type - moving 1:00 games to 4:00 because they are better matchups.

The Jaguars haven't had the type of success in the 2000's that would lead generations of Dolphins fans changing favorite teams. If the Jaguars had a run like the Patriots did in the early part of the 21st Century, I believe the Jaguars would be the most popular AFC Team in Central Florida in the present. All one can do is learn from the past. With Blake Bortles, it looks like the Jaguars have a very good opportunity for a bright future.

They weren't better, but Central Florida had already become Dolfans by then. You don't think they'd just change loyalties depending on how well a team plays, do you? You're still a Jags fan in spite of the last 6 years.
