No, no, no.....they already competed. IN THE ACTUAL GAMES. McCray SHREDDED Gratz there, by comparison in play. At this point there should be no more "competing" in practice for Sunday's start - at least not until McCray gives you a reason via his play IN GAMES to re-visit the "competition". McCray earned & won it. This just comes off as either a lack of conviction on Bradley's part or incompetence as to how to handle situations/ manage.

You just don't realize the myriad of things there are to complain about. Thankfully, we have someone around to point them out. Otherwise I wouldn't have known to be mad at Gus over doing what he said he'd do.  Now I know, and I'm furious.

If you focus on the exact words of the tweet and my response, not sure how you can't see that my take is spot on. 

 

Put it this way, Gratz' first season and games this year was HIS part of the "competition". He had his chance. He played poorly throughout much of that time, including this season. McCray came in and played lights out in HIS part of the "competition" with his play in recent weeks.  At this point, there is (or should be) no giving Gratz another chance here this week in practice - McCray earned the opportunity by his play IN THE GAME to take the starting gig and run with it - at least until McCray gives Gus a reason via his play IN GAME to re-visit the competition between he and Gratz. Bradley just comes off as soft and without conviction by not handling the situation with the clarity and conviction I outlined above. 

 

The fact that people cannot see the sense of the above is mind boggling.

The corner that's been playing better is starting.

 

If he continues to play like he has, he will keep the starting job.  Simple as that.

 

If McCray falls on his face, Gratz will get another opportunity.  That's how it goes in the NFL.

The tweet surely made it sound as if there was still some doubt as to which of them were starting. It said Bradley was "leaning" towards McCray. IMO, after McCray played well -again- last Sunday, there should be no "leaning" towards McCray at this point, the answer out of Bradleys mouth should have been a decisive "McCray's the starter Sunday, period, because he's earned it" Period. If you're in a position of leadership, you will be respected more with decisions made with conviction rather than wishy washy. Theres really no reason for Bradley to be still leaving the door open for a Gratz start for Sunday, which his tweet suggested.

You must not understand how the process works. When a backup outplays the injured starter, coaches want to see if that was an anomaly or sign they should rewrite the depth chart. Any player can have a few good games or a few bad games. By letting guys compete for a job in practices, the coaches are figuring out if McCray is a better cornerback or Gratz was in a funk. In other words, who is the long-term answer at that posiion?

 

Gus Bradley actually did have a conviction about McCray, but he wanted to double-check before naming Gratz the backup/nickel.
