I still wouldn't hate Turner though. Smith and Turner would make a pretty good coaching staff IMO.

Since our last playoff appearance in 2007. The Jaguars have gone through 3 GM's (Shack, Gene, Caldwell) and 4 headaches(Del Rio, Mularkey, Gus, and now new head coach). We haven't been 500 since 2010 and haven't had a winning season since 2007. This is all about changing the culture. We need to install an atmosphere and culture of winning. We need someone who can come up and turn this team around quickly. Mike Smith isnt the most sexy selection, but hes got a track record of winning and winning fast. We all want the team to make that splash and be the best team, but lets start with competing again and build off that. Lets get this team competing for the AFC South again, lets not have our season ended by the end of October, lets not be picking in the top 5. We need to compete and get the ship turned in the right direction. 

 

Nothing is guaranteed and whoever the head coach is, they have a tough task ahead. If its Mike Smith I think its an excellent hire. I think it would be a stretch to even be thinking of playoffs, but if you were to tell me he could turn the team around in 1 season and get us to 500 and in the thick of the playoff race in December, I think a good chunk of the fanbase would be jumping out of their chairs. 

 

Change the culture, get this team competing again, make winning a priority.

4 straight years of Gus Bradley and you think it was the QB that caused all of our problems? It wouldn't have mattered if Derek Carr or Teddy Bridgewater was the QB - we'd STILL be in the same situation we're in now: looking for a COMPETENT head coach.

I think better QB play would have gotten us a few more wins.

But to have won. The division?

Definitely would have taken more than better QB play.

Now.... Stellar QB play?

I think we'd of won the division.

There's a lot more that changes when the QB kicks AZZ.... Everything looks different...

So who knows?

Regarding the BoogerGate video: at least the video cut out prior to consumption.

Smith is a good HC who won as a HC in the NFL, no of the other guys can say that outside of Coughlin, so its a good hire

 

Its nothing safe about hiring the guy with the best resume

It's a safe hire (if true), without the unknowns that come with McDaniels, Patricia, and/or Shanahan.

While true, we haven't sniffed the playoffs in almost 10 years.

I am 100% on board with hiring Smith as HC. Would be absolutely thrilled if he can bring along McCoy or another proven offensive mind to run the offense. No more stiffs like Fisch or Olson.
