Quote:For me, it wasn't positive or negative emotion regarding the game. Just find it funny that so many chastised SEC folks in the hey-day for rooting in conference when playing an out of conference school, or in bowls. But the very same thing happened in droves the past several weeks.
I completely understand and accept your observations.
I've always wondered if my perspective on conference pride is a result of my age. Let me expand on that.
There are probably several non-FSU fans on this message board that cannot remember a time when FSU football did not play in a conference. Bobby Bowden began a quest in the late 70's by scheduling away games with powerhouse schools as a strategy for improving FSU's credibility. Obviously, the plan worked brilliantly. As an almost 45 year old, having been raised by FSU alums, listening to their horror stories from the 60's and then watching FSU come into its' own in the 80's, my perspective was from a very "independent" (that's what they called us non-conference teams....independent) and "us against the world" mentality. Again, Coach Bowden had to implement his strategy as there wasn't conference talent to leverage.
Having attended and graduating in the 90 - 94 era, I witnessed first-hand FSU's entrance into the ACC, winning its' first national title and the rest is history.
Obviously, FSU's history had a huge impact on me not relishing conference success as there wasn't a conference to cheer for until the 1992 season. I would imagine that younger Noles feel much different. It would be interesting for FSU fans to respond with their perspectives and provide their age to see if my hypothesis can be proven.

I think the last few weeks/season showed that conference pride is a thing to many ACC folks, I am not sure what age limit that is, if any, but it is definitely there. I can't say I blame them either. There is no better way to get better quicker then by teams in conference getting good. Iron sharpens iron. Always holds true.

This was a great year for collegiate sports in the state of South Carolina, first with Coastal Carolina winning the College World Series and now with Clemson winning the NCAA Football Title.

Quote:Sometimes one shouldn't paint with such a broad brush. Obviously, I can't speak for all ACC or FSU fans.I'm a nole fan as well. I didn't have joy for Clemson winning....I just enjoyed that Bama lost the game for the exact reason some are accusing ACC people of and that's pounding their SEC chests and thinking they won something. Bama has held the SEC up for the last 5 years. News flash...the other conferences are just as good and it definitely showed this bowl season
For me personally, I experienced no positive or negative emotion from last night's game other than envy as the team that I cheer for was not present.

There's no hiding that right now

Agree. It was a lot different claiming Conference eliteness when the BCS Championships were being won by Florida, Bama, and Auburn.
