Surprisingly similar complaints to what I read here.

Say their oline is horrendous

Missed tackles/assignments

Concerned about Sherman

Calling for someone to be fired.

They miss Red and Clemons

The knee jerk reactions here are funny. I'll admit, while watching the game I feel some of it, but if you can't see the growth then you're purposely trying to avoid it. Look at yesterday's stats as a team compared to any other game this season and it was our best performance yet.

I'm in no way saying we are good. But the doom and gloom is just sad. Things are progressing, way slower than we hoped or even expected, but it's slowly getting better. And with the softer part of our schedule coming up I think you'll see we can match up to a mid level team fine. The Washington game doesn't count because Henne. But Bortles went toe to toe with Rivers for a full half. Try to enjoy it.

Disappointment in this team is anything but "knee-jerk".... I honestly can't remember the last game we didn't get blown out in.

The difference between them and us is they expect perfection.  We just want to lose by less than 15.

Given the fact that we've been outscored 58-152 can the reactions here really be considered knee jerk?

Good post. I like to think most Jag fans have this kind of perspective but that would be wishful thinking. People probably didn't fully appreciate what a complete tear down and rebuild of the roster would mean. It is pretty painful right now to be sure but we have some pieces starting to fall into place even if it is not reflected in the results right now.

We all fully appreciate what a complete tear down of the roster is.

Call me crazy if I expect better than being dead last in most important statistical categories, all while getting blown out each and every week.

Ok, you're crazy. Well you asked me too!

In all honesty, we have a second year expansion team essentially. Getting blown out early and often is not uncommon for expansion teams. We just think it is.
It called perspective. Once you really understand how bad the roster was when Caldwell took over it may make more sense. I see things to build around and think you hit it perfectly.

Hopefully they learn to be competitive this year
Knee jerk? You wait for a game every week to get blown out in it when it gets here. And that's been the same result for years.

I appreciate the optimism, and maybe you're right.

But looking at the expansion team's records and scores, we look even worse.

Look at the Lions 2008 season.  Out of their 16 losses, I count only 6 blowouts....

they were in 10 other games.  I know it's only been 4 games thus far for us, but we're not even close.

We understand how bad the roster was.  that's why the other GM and coaching staff was fired.  The current GM and coach are supposed to make this roster better.

After 2 drafts and 2 FA periods, is this roster better than the roster that went 2-14?  If yes, how can you tell?  If not, why not?

How's this for Knee Jerk

Over the past 20 games in the Gus era, we've been outscored 601 to 300 ---- That's equivalent to losing by a score of 30 to 15 each game.

Gosh man, I really wish we are just over-reacting with regards to our disappointment with this team. I really do.

As a matter of fact, I can't wait for the day when most of us are just nitpicking
... wonder what Snoop Dogg's reaction would be if he were a Jags fan.

Yeh, I'm just looking forward to the day when we blame a loss on the officiating or conservative play calling with 4 minutes to go in the game.

I don't think you can really count the first year. This year just started when we put Bortles in. So, it is a knee jerk reaction to think what went wrong with previous regimes is going to continue. Where is the logic in that? Why complain about how bad this team has been for x amount of years? You might as well be comparing different teams.

I get what you are saying and I agree with you in principle.

However, for point of reference, here are our first year results from 1995.

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/te...x/1995.htm

There were four games all of 1995 where the Jaguars lost by 17 points or more.

This is the second year of Gus and Dave, and we've lost the first four games by that number.

Carolina lost three games by that amount that entire year.

Cleveland v. 2.0 lost five games by 17 or more the entire year

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/te...r/1995.htm

Houston lost four the entire year.

I think the team played better overall yesterday than it had all season, but it still isn't close to being enough.

We have to play better.
I'm not saying we aren't bad, and that blowouts are acceptable. All I was getting at was that yes we have a bad team, but it IS getting better. That doesn't make blowouts acceptable, but a lot here act like nothing at all good happened yesterday. When a lot did. It's going to be a long season. I'd rather try to focus on the good. Not like us complaining will magically make the defense better.

I totally agree we have to play better. With that said some of the expansion teams had advantages we didn't (double draft picks, etc.) And in any case, it is not an exact analogy because our situation is different and we're going with such an agressive youth movement.

I dunno if it will pay off but given the scope of the changes, I'm not completely shocked at the results. Like most folks, I was expecting things to be a *little* better, but who knows how the rest of the year will play out?

Yeah. They are a *little* better with Bortles playing now though. We have an offense that can do something. IMO the first 3 games were a wash bc of Henne. Our season started yesterday.
