I'd make sure the O-line doesn't suck as bad as it does.

5 yrs, 37.5 mil is not a big deal to this team

Quote:We're starting a rookie center.  He's calling the protections for the line!  Obviously, no problem with that.

There is a problem with that if you're going to trot a rookie QB out there behind him.  Thanks for making my overall point for me.  We're also starting a TE this week who was on the practice squad of another team last week, a rookie playing RG, and a starting RT who has a whopping 4 starts in his NFL career.

None of that spells good timing to throw your rookie QB out there, even against a team that supposedly has a suspect defense.

Very good point I doubt it will be you will receive the reasoning why starting a rookie center is not a problem but starting a rookie quarterback is. especially when the rookie quarterback is better then the starter.
Quote:Is 2-4 considered good then?
Did I say it was?
This board is about 90% bashing other posters and 10% football.

The one rookie will would have the most positive impact for the team is being held off the field.

It is if he's playing RT.

If the Jaguars actually played football, we might talk about it.

So it's not an ideal situation to start him.  If we wait for the pieces to develop, we might as well wait until 2016.  And then, we still have no guarantee it will be better.

It is to a guy who isn't in the long term plans, Eugene Monroe is a good football player, I thought the Jags got good value for a player that was going to walk in 2014. He's not a top 10 tackle in this league, more like 20-25. Luke Joeckel was considered by many as the best player in the draft, I thought it was a sensible move by the Jaguars.

Not ideal?  It's a terrible position to put ANY QB in, but most especially the guy you have determined will be your long-term solution as the starting QB for this team.

Nobody is expecting Bortles to wait until 2016 to start, and suggesting such is just ridiculous.

I did the same thing Laughing

So a 5 year, $30 mil contract for a guard is OK, but not paying a RT?

I don't think it's too much money to a stud right tackle, but Monroe isn't a stud RT. I'd have no problem giving that contract to a guy like Anthony Davis.
It is useless to try and have a discussion with someone that is never wrong!  FBT is a master at twisting every comment into an endorsement of his opinion. Just as his never argue with idiots, never argue with someone that is always right.

Again, that goes back to the reasoning behind getting Joeckel in the first place.  We had a competent starter, but then we draft a player to replace him.  Why not accept the little talent that existed on the roster already and build on it?  Monroe was probably the best player we had (including Knighton).

Why is that ridiculous?  You think the Jags will be significantly better next year?

lol good point

So... 2015 then?

That's when we'll have a non-rookie starter at 2 interior positions (maybe).

Heck ol Blake won't be a rookie and the wideouts either.

Problem solved. 2015 Bortles should start. When he isn't a rookie and there aren't any rookies starting at key positions.
