Quote:He sure has been on a media campaign since the season ended painting a favorable picture (to him) of  why his season went the way it did.  I know it's difficult as a fan of a specific player or specific team not to always see things in in the best possible light when forming an opinion, but I'd urge a wait and see approach with Blake.  Let's see how he performs in the first few games of next season before we're ready to exonerate him entirely of this season's performance.  As is often quoted around here, "just because someone says something doesn't make it true."
I agree, but when what he's saying makes the pieces fall into place and things start making sense it's hard not to be in favor of him, especially considering what we know he can do (2015) and who came in and threw it all out of whack (Olsen). No pun intended. But yeah, if he's not progressed by a few games in next season then he's got to go.
How would Blake know what Olsen thinks?

Weren't we told they didn't directly communicate and Hackett was their go-between?

Isn't that statement already odd enough?

Shouldn't the OC and QB talk constantly?

Wasn't that Chad Henne and just during part of this season?
Quote:I'm no big Olson supporter and I certainly don't tout him as a run-game guru (or any type of guru for that matter) but  Stephen Jackson won the NFL rushing title in Olson's offense with the Rams and rushed for over 1000 yards the following year as well with 100 less carries.

Good point, although I suspect they had their own run-game coordinator. Back then Oley was mostly known as a qb coach.

I don't want to re-do the "players, not plays" thing, but Olson knows football, knows offense. This isn't rocket science. 2015 looked pretty good.

Sometimes it just doesn't work out and separating blame among players and coaches is real hard to do. Olson was offered up to the football gods and it's time to move on.

So basically unless he's going to work on it constantly and have someone hold his hand, he's going to revert back to old bad habits. At some point this should be automatic for a professional.

You understand players never stop working on this stuff right? It's why people like Tom House have a job. What do your think players do in offseason training, play house?
I understand players practice their craft, but mechanics are fundamental to a quarterback and must be reliable. Bortles is far, far from reliable mechanics. It's way different than someone fine tuning their abilities.

Fair but he's also young, like I pointed out before Manning had interception issues for like his first 5 years. Brees was an after thought after his first 2/3 years.

Matt Ryan looked as good as done and washed up after last year.

All of them knew they had a problem and fixed it and we're better for it. We should be happy we at least have a QB who knows he has an issue and is willing to work on his craft and better himself as a player.
Egyptian hieroglyphic hitch is olsen's fault, ummmmmm, ok, got it bortles

Ummmmmm, yes.

Did he have it in 2015? No. Thats what happens when you tell a QB that has a problem with mechanics to forget about it.

Shocking...i know.

Big Ben just got his mechanics squared away like 3 years ago. Blake got proper mechanical training for the first time 2 years ago. It's going to take a few visits/years before it's automatic. THEN you fine tune. He's 24... He can most certainly fix his mechanics long term.

Some QBs work on footwork, some on wind ups, some on follow through... Everyone works on something every year.

Unless there was another incident I'm not aware of, it was Chad Henne acting as the go-between during the blowout loss to Tennessee right before Olson got canned. Perhaps Bortles harbored some resentment for Olson insisting he stay to throw in Jacksonville whilst pushing him away from Tom House and co. Especially if Blake felt that was the reason, justified or not, his mechanics and really the entire team's hopes went right into the gutter this season.

A certain quarterback I know should be working on all three this offseason.
Quote:Call it the Jarrad Rule.
I call it the extremely immature, authoritative man/woman child being an admin @ the jungle expectation.

All season I said Olsen screwed up Bortles, nobody believed me. Olsen is a terrible coach, period. He told Bortles to change his throwing motion plus spread the ball out more.

Quote:Un.......believable!I don't know what's worst learning that Blake is left handed and throws right.. Or having a idiotic Oc that doesn't want his player to get better.. Damn Caldwell.. Smh

Seriously? You're putting this on Caldwell? Last time I checked, BRADLEY hired him. GM's only control what players to draft and sign. They have no say in selecting who serves under the HC....

I swear, our fan base is obsessed with witch hunts.

Your mistaking having a problem with all 3 to having to work on all 3.

His footwork is effecting the other to, if he fixes his footwork the rest will be fixed as we. He even talks about how he focused on footwork and his wind up got better as he did.
