When it was half way through the second quarter I knew the Eagles were going to come back.
1. Very potent offense.
2. Henne isn't our guy.
3. Jaguars are a young team.
How was this not expected? Was this not clear at the start of the season? Hey, it was exciting seeing those early 17 points go up. But to think we still had a chance when we hardly converted 3rd downs, it was just so obvious how the outcome this game was going to have.
4. No run game.
5. Henne second guessing himself (using up our times out).
6. Taking so many shots down field(not entirely bad, but those attacks looked formed out of desparation).
What I'm confused about with this board is, why did anyone think we weren't going to have an ugly game?
Again,
7. Second youngest team in the league.
8. Henne.
9. Second year head coach.(Not an excuse here, but really this team is slowly starting to gel, it's not there yet, but it's getting there).
But here is the silver lining.
10. Dline looks really good. Enough to keep us in the game.
11. The dline is making our secondary look like veterans.
12. They're getting to the QB very effeciently. Key players are making other players look good.
We had some questions about our dline, some were certain it was going to be good, some were not and others on the fence. Right now, they are good. Yes it may be too early to tell and unless our offense can move those chains the defense is going to be working over time until next season but, as of right now our D can and will present problems.
13. Our defense is hard and it all starts with in the trenches.
14. Our defense is fast. I can't remember the last time I was excited about our defense. These guys play like piercing arrows.
15. Take away that hurry up play that Sproles ran up the gut and we contained a very potent run game for 3 1/2 quarters. It all starts with the front four and they did a good job.
These are mostly positives. Henne is the common denominator and he had some moments were if the WR pulled in the pass would have extended the drive. So give it time to gel. Henne looked somewhat sharp today. I distinctly remember one time he used a time out in the second half and I just called him an idiot. But he saw something. He made a safe call for one, giving our defense more time off the field and second, he converted the third down. He is a game manager. He does just enough and really that's what we should be expecting from him and that's ok. He made me eat my own words. He may not have the "it" factor, but he certainly belongs in the NFL. Maybe not as a franchise QB but, certainly as a guy you can rely on temporarily. Hey flame me for that all you want. I want Bortles in there as much as anyone but, I stand behind whatever QB we have starting. Right now, I'm enjoying the positive things this team is showing and that is the defense and other things like, Hurns. Who? Exactly!
