Quote:Gabbert wasn't "ruined" he was never an NFL QB to begin with. Bortles can play.
That's YOUR opinion.. So you'd rather throw Bortles to the wolves with a horrid o-line?!? [BLEEP]..
Quote:I did.. Because I'm not giving into some knee jerk reaction and risk the chance of ruining our franchise QB (ala Gabbert) before this O-line is fixed and Bortles is ready. This isn't Madden..
How is he going to be ruined?
Because he's going to get hit? That's going to happen next year, too...and every year after that.
He's got the pocket awareness to help make the OL look better than they are. He's got the mobility AND the ability to throw well on the run to help keep himself from taking shots. He's not Blaine Gabbert. There's no comparison. Gabbert played the way he played in college, on a smaller scale, as he did in the NFL. His pocket presence always sucked.

Gabbert was terrible because he was terrible.

I would rather him make "rookie" mistakes this year than next. What happens if next season the 0-line sustains some injuries, you still going to want to "protect" Bortles from the wolves?
People are so afraid to draft a QB. And almost more afraid to play him.
You'll have a hard time convincing me Bortles would've done as bad, or worse, than Henne today.
I need to invest into Pfizer.. Lots of Xanax needed in this thread..

Gabbert completely skewed some people's view on rookie QBs... It's like they're dogs who were beaten by their former owner, and as a result, think that ALL owners will beat them. Never mind that plenty of QBs played their rookie year and did just fine. Never mind that Derek freaking Carr is starting and he was supposed to be a project. Bortles is 10 times the QB he is on an equally bad roster and he seems to be doing fine. But no, it's Gabbert. It all comes back to Gabbert. Gabbert sucked and will always suck so we should roll with Chad Henne for the remainder of the season so we can protect Blake from magically transforming into Gabbert. Because if he sits all season he is guaranteed to come in next year and set the world on fire, the o-line will be magically fixed, the sun will shine and the angels will sing, and unicorns will poop rainbows all over everbank field
Quote:10 votes for Henne??
Maybe he has a large family
hard to not want Bortles to start but Caldwell and co haven't given me any reason not to trust them so i'm fine with their plan.

Have they given you a reason to trust them?
Regardless of how many "votes" Henne has, lets see if the Jags keep Henne as the starter and not follow the usual suspects on here into some knee jerk reaction.. My money is on, "they won't"..

So you cool if Henne keeps starting?

There was some questionable coaching today. Not calling a time out when your defense isn't ready and the play goes up the middle for a TD. Going ultra conservative with a half of football to play. Not giving Denard more touches when he was more effective than Gerhart.

Curious what the league thinks of "intentional tanking".

I wish I knew the real reason he is not starting. Anyone that watches these two know BB is far superior.
I don't buy into the "ruining" him thing. He has what it takes whether he starts now or later.

Gus stood up there today at the presser and said Chad played well. It's pretty clear the coaching staff has taken to flat out lying to reinforce their position to sit Bortles. I wouldn't look for Bortles to start any time soon, sadly
If we're waiting until our O-line become solid, we might be waiting until his third year to start him.

I don't like watching him but I trust Caldwell's development plan with Bortles.

agreed and you gotta remember this coaching staff is still young and learning themselves. I trust them though and agreed Drob should have had more carries.
