Quote:Wow...national media is jumping all over the Jags already...laughing, puzzled at conservative 2nd half play, wondering what Henne is doing out there. Only took 5 minutes for the Jags to be the laughing stock of the 2014 season.
This ship needs to be righted.
Lesson of the day: Never listen to the national media for anything Jaguars related. Never. When you see the Jags logo come up just change the channel.
Quote:Chad Henne had 43 pass attempts, and that was with a massive lead for half of the game. That's a ridiculous number, for Henne or Bortles.
When the line isn't creating lanes for the running game, this is what you get. When the Eagles are loading up the box and forcing us to throw it, and we've got nothing but rookies out there, it's not good.
I'm not kidding, I really hope Henne is done. I think, that second half should do it. Terrible accuracy, his experience used two timeouts on third and nine plus!!! Bortles can call time out too, I'm pretty sure.

Disagree. Henne was constantly in 2nd and 3rd and long because we couldnt run. Bortles would be no better. Need to wait for this OL to gel or do something to take pressure off of the passing game.
The passionate and die-hard fans are now left in an all to familiar position this evening. Different faces same garbage. When does it end?
For those who react "emotionally" to just about everything in their lives, it's understandable to assume this game was blown by Bradlley. However, that's simply not true. The first half ended up with the Jags walking in at halftime with a 17-0 lead based solely on their ability to capitalize on Philly's turnovers. Great 1st half for the Jags. Along with supreme pass protection for Henne the Jags were able to take advantage of the Eagles big mistakes. However, the OL was NOT opening holes for their running game (Gerhart) and he was having to "earn" every yard he got. This game is not on Gerhart for his less than stellar numbers. Philly was daring Henne to do in the 2nd half what he got away with in the 1st. You can't win football games when your offense is 2-14 on 3rd down conversions. Some of this MUST fall squarely on Chad Henne and his leadership abilities. But, let's face it............Tom Brady he is not!
The Jags could never get the momentum back that they had in the 1st half and Philly took full advantage of that. Yes, they lost a game they could have "clearly" won but we need to find a way to take away from this game and build. I thought the defense was better than most would have guessed until they look to be gassed there towards the end and a couple of coverages were undoubtedly blown but overall.............there are good things to take away from the game for them as a unit. The offense, well............if the OL does NOT find a way to push some people off the ball on run plays..........it's gonna be a long season for Henne and a long one for Toby Gerhart too. Adrian Peterson with decent holes opened up aint gonna do much damage either. And Gerhart..........aint Adrian. Henne was off the mark in the 2nd half and alot of the time..............WAY OFF. So that, must be worked on as well. But, it's not a time to panic as who thought they were going 16-0 anyways? It just sucks to see a game slip away that should have been won. And, for this reason alone............the Bortles calls will be flying high this coming week. On the other hand, it too is somewhat justified. Let's just see how Chad Henne bounces back from adversity that was as much self inflicted as it was Philly's tough defense.

Totally agree.

I think, Bortles would of hit the long ball, when ? had two steps on two defenders, wouldn't of thrown the ball in the dirt, probably give Marcedes a chance on 4th down, etc. etc. Doesn't overthrow the sideline by six feet.
With 8 men in the box it's tough to open lanes, with no respect for the pass (Henne) teams will do this all season unless something changes (Bortles)

I'm not emotional at all, but if blame MUST fall squarely on Henne, shouldn't blame also fall squarely of the man who decided to play Henne?
Haven't we seen enough of how Henne "bounces" back to know exactly what to expect?
We had a real shot at going on the road and knocking off a playoff caliber team.
Bradley came out in the 2nd half and gave the game away. 6 mins left in the 4th and you put all your faith in Marcedes Lewis????
Wow

It isn't like there were a lot of proven, go-to options, though personally I would have looked for Hurns.
I would have gone for it on 4th down in my own territory too, if it meant winning the game. But hey, that's the difference between a good coach and a great coach IMO.
Chip Kelly made hald time adjustments, Gus Bradley didnt make any adjustments.
This loss falls squarley on Gus Bradley.
Quote:I guess the drops are his fault too?
Agree. It is truly amazing how people are jumping on Henne. I am by far not a Henne fan, but there were some key drops in the second half that led to three and outs. Two by Hurns, one by Lee and one by Lewis. Throw in a 4 th down where we should have called a time out on defense that completely turned the momentum and absolutely NO running game and you have the recipe for a young team to lose on the road to a very good team.

We never make halftime adjustments. Our halftime adjustment is hope and pray.

Going for it successfully didn't mean winning the game though, it only meant a fresh set of downs, still with 70 yards to go.
Going for it unsuccessfully meant game over.
That's the time/field position/timeouts variable. Two minutes on the clock with no timeouts, you have to go for it regardless of position. 5 minutes, you punt and let your defense try to make a stop. 5 minutes from
their 25, sure, you go for it because a punt probably wont help you.
I like Gus, but I think it was a terrible coaching call.

I have to agree this is one area that I'm not impressed by the coaching staff. Last season showed a terrible lack of halftime adjustments, and the same thing happened in this game.
However, I was hoping the running game would give the Jags a chance in this game. But, it is just atrocious. If they could've run the ball even slightly better, the 2nd half would've looked a lot different, and the Jags likely could've won.
I don't buy that the running game is stalled completely because a "lack of fear" of Henne's passing. Henne looked really good in the first half, and the running game still looked god awful. They couldn't even get 1 yard on a couple 3rd downs that ended up stalling drives.
The offensive line and running game is just pitiful. The rookie WRS still have a lot of learning to do. Even though they show great promise, how many times did they mess up on route communication (Lee).
We all know Bortles has much more talent than Henne. But, I just don't believe that it's the only difference in winning/losing. Until these WRS get more experience, and the O-line actually looks like it belongs in the NFL, it's going to be a frustrating struggle no matter who the QB is. I really believe that.
You can't really expect to close out a game with a guy like Henne at QB. Especially against a good team like the Eagles. That's on Bradley. So yes, I agree.

None of what you're saying here is going to sink in with the start Bortles now crowd, but you're spot on with your points.
