They've been grooming D-Rob for KR duties. I bet we see him back there this year if Todman isn't producing (or gets hurt.)   I don't think they trust his hands enough for punt duty just yet.

That is true.  Of course the coaches know better than we do, i wonder what the rationale is?

 

I'd venture to say that an injury to Brown would be less impactful to the overall team than to Robinson. Maybe?

For a guy with ball security issues  - like Robinson - working at KR presents less potential for catastrophe than PR.  They don't trust his hands at PR.  At KR he has a bigger buffer and the ball comes in at a less steep angle which is easier to someone unaccustomed to returns.

Robinson has not returned a punt since his sophomore year of college. It's not happening.

I'd like him to quote the team doctors talking about his injury.  Wonder what the risk is to exacerbating it is?

Personally I don't think DRob has enough short area quickness for PR duties.

Personally, I'm not as enamored with D-Rob as most posters here are, but then I'm not a college football fan.

He's fast but he hasn't shown a lot of shiftiness or that jitterbug quality that Ace has. This coming from someone who saw zero of his college games, so I could totally be wrong, just haven't seen him do it yet.

I never watched him in college. Perhaps half of one game. And I only watch about 7 or 8 college games each year - 3 of them being bowl games. 

 

 -but I have been a proponent of him around here.  I just like his potential to be a home run threat occasionally when a defense is caught flat-footed.  It could be a pipedream obviously, but it's just easy for me to envision him taking a screen pass 60 yards or gaining 20+ yard runs around the edge late in games regularly.  I just think he's got the skillset and speed to be a really effective COP back.

NYC, I agree with you on him as a COP back and even KR. I like him a lot in both those roles. I just don't see a classic PR skillset in him.

Me either. KR is even still a stretch, IMO.  Hopefully he can grow into that one.

Could be exciting to watch despite the role being diminished by the rule changes. ( and hopefully not exciting because of the suspense of whether he'll hold onto the ball!  :teehee:  )

I understand that David had had his eye on him for quite some time. Loves his intangibles and leadership abilities. I don't know if his skillset is going to translate into the NFL; it hasn't yet. I will say he makes an excellent gunner on special teams. I can see him as a montel Owens type. But unless he proves me wrong over the course of the season, I expect to see todman/robinson's replacement picked up next year.


One thing I noticed about him is he goes down easy. I don't expect him to look like Toby out there, but come on this football and the guy drops like a fly at first contact.

I actually think Todman goes down even easier, but you have a point.

I see your points, but that last statement is ridiculous.  He's broken dozens of arm tackles in his brief time here and has even moved the pile a handful of times.  He's obviously not a bruising back and it's a heck of a position switch obviously - but you haven't been paying attention if you think he "drops like a fly at first contact."

My opinion is Drob actually runs with good drive north/south, and you are right - I've seen him push a pile down the field when he is squared up. If someone gets to him while he's East/West he isn't nearly as good at breaking the tackle. That probably holds true for most backs his size though.

Don't get me wrong  -  I've noticed him going down on a tackle that other backs might have shrugged off as well. I just haven't seen it to the point of  making the "drops like a fly at first contact"  statement out friend made earlier. 

 

And I attribute some of that to size and some to learning the techniques of a new position.
