Quote:Whoa, hold your horses there, Mister.

Being paid like a franchise guy doesn't make someone a franchise guy.

Garrard was never a franchise guy but he got paid, too.

I didn't even bother to respond to him there. Its laughable he sees Andy Dalton as a "franchise level" QB.

Andy Dalton without those weapons would be a Joe Bag O Donuts QB.

Andy Dalton even WITH those weapons still has played like garbage in the playoffs.

we already had this debate. you think andrew luck is a franchise guy but dalton isnt. the colts weapons might be just a little bit worse than the bengals. the bengals really dont have anything special outside of aj green and daltons play and stats crap on andrew luck.

so if luck is a franchise guy to you, then dalton is a franchise guy. regardless of your opinion, he is definitely a franchise qb and oddly enough, the entire bengals franchise also sees him that way.
Quote:    Meh....here's one from Mallett thats even more impressive.

No, that's a good throw, but it definitely wasn't more impressive. Bortles hit his guy in stride 50 yards down the field without even needing to step into the throw, the Mallet throw was good, but wasn't as well placed. (WR coming toward the middle of the field, had to readjust back out toward the sideline)
I think something that's telling is that in 3 years he only got in once when the Pats usually have 2 or 3 games a year where its a blow out win where they could bring a capable back up in to take some snaps...

The only time anyone brings in the back up these days is due to injury.
Just when this thread couldn't get any more asinine...

...it does.

It's like Schrodinger's cat: dead.  Unless it's not.

Quote:"I don't know what happened to this guy but if forum posters were handed annual awards, I'd vote him Most Improved Poster of the Year! Kudos TMD, this is refreshing!!!"

It sure was short lived...

Those were the glory days!!!

If we're looking at the same pass Bortles threw it 35 yards. Yawn....

Mallett threw the ball OVER 50 yards into the receivers hands while on the run.
Quote:No, not "hindsight". How can it be friggin "hindsight" if I never thought any of those QB were franchise level QB even prior to being drafted??

Claiming "hindsight" is so desperate and false.
The argument FBT was making is all were viewed at one time as "franchise level QB" or they wouldn't have been drafted.

We must not be looking at the same video clip.

Either way I look forward to a lot of years of texans fans anger at passing on our guy.
Ryan Mallett's preseason.

14/26 (53.8%) 161 yards 6.2 YPA 1 TD 0 INT

Not a bad deal for the Texans, but anybody expecting him to be anything is going to be in for a rude awakening.

Compared to Garoppolo and Bortles:

Garoppolo: 46/79 (58.2%) 618 yards 5 TD 1 INT

Bortles: 32/51 (62.7%) 521 yards (10.2 YPA) 2 TD 0 INT.

Texans have messed up big time. You don't pass on franchise qb's.

How bout the Rams!?!  Their guy can't even crack the starting lineup.

based totally on that, yes.

Based on his impressive play in college, the last time he got an opportunity to be a full time starter, no.

Not indicitive of success in the pros.

You do grasp the fact that the NFL is not college, right?

The list of QBs who showed "impressive play in college" only to fall flat on their faces at the next level is a long, and distinguished list.  To add to the fuel here, not only did your man crush play miserably in the preseason, but Garoppolo played extremely well.  Much better than anyone anticipated, and because of that, the untested rookie is replacing a guy who has done nothing in the NFL, preseason or regular season to warrant all the love you give him.

Usually its the one's who's college game doesn't translate well to the NFL that fail. See Tebow.

The QB that played more of a pro style in college and did so at a high level, usually translate well to the pro game. Mallett was making all kinds of NFL throws his last year of college. He's the classic dropback passer.

Evidently, Mallet's game doesn't translate to the NFL.  Not even preseason NFL.

There wasnt one available in this draft. Next year is way more promising.
