Quote:No it doesn't. What it seems like is the coaches want to build chemistry between Bortles and the other 10 starters so whenever he is needed because of injury, he will not be thrown into the fire like Chad Henne was in Oakland. A big reason we lost that game was after Blaine Gabbert got hurt, Henne was totally unprepared and didn't gel at all with the receivers or offensive line. Having Bortles practice with the starters allows our offense to avoid a similar disaster if Henne gets hurt.

That's why the Jags lost to Oakland in Oakland?? BG got hurt and Henne, who has been a starter in the NFL for several seasons, was totally unprepared and didn't gel with all the receivers or offensive line? lol, Good Lord, sometimes I don't know what the heck I am reading on here.

Maybe, just maybe it had something to do with CH and BG being 2 of the worst QB's, according to QBR ratings, in the entire NFL.

...or Jax being one of the worst teams in the entire NFL.

Yup.  Henne and Gabbert aren't anything special, but they weren't alone in their mediocrity on this roster.  When you blow up a roster, this is what you get.  We're in a much better place now, and the arrow is pointed in the right direction.  When Bortles is ready, it's going to be a good day for this organization.

Looks like BB will be splitting first team reps during the regular season with Henne. Which is more and more apparent that he's not going to sit the whole year like some originally assumed. I'm still thinking the home game against the Steelers week 5 is when he makes his debut.

I don't think there will be much in the way of splitting reps.  They may slip him in late in games early in the season to get him acclimated to the speed of the game, but once he's comfortable, it's his offense.  They're not going to be rotating QBs.

Getting the practice reps with the first team will help him to continue developing the rapport with the receivers, and adjusting to the timing.  He'll need that to get game ready.

Quote:Scout team reps yes. I don't believe they normally get any first team reps.
Scout team reps go to the 3rd/practice squad QB not the #2.

2nd team QB participates in the game planning of the offense. You can't do that studying the other team's offense.

Henne wasn't our problem, he threw for 354 yards and 4 TDs, It had something to do with playing one of the best teams in the league that year and Matt Schaub throwing for 527 yards and 5 TDs. Sometimes, teams are just better than yours. Johnson had 273 receiving yards. I'd be willing to say that we were only IN THAT GAME because of Henne and Blackmon. Gabbert could have never kept us in that shoot out.

It was the 8-1 Texans vs. the 1-8 Jaguars not a surprise we lost that one

that matt schaub, johnson and the oakland texans are one nasty team.............
See the crazy thing is that they've told us since before the draft ("Johnny is the only plug-and-play starter") that this was their plan. We just haven't bought it or at least wanted to buy it. It seems like our boy is changing up the schedule, though.

Quote:No one "assumed" anything. They listened to what the club said.

Tune in Thurs. It might be the last you see of Blake in 2014.

By "assumed" I meant the FO has always said "when he's ready" which a lot, understandably, thought it was no chance he play this year at all. Though I'm sure it's happened, I've never heard of a backup taking first team reps during the season. That has to allude to something.
He's the QB of the future, so this is not surprising at all to get first team reps in practice.

So Bridgewater, Carr, Savage, Garoppolo are going to take reps away from their respective starters during the season because they are "the future"? I highly doubt you'll see Brady giving up his reps. Hell even Fitzpatrick I doubt will lose reps to the backups.

So, there's a required process each team must follow? Or, is it remotely possible different teams do things differently?

I think it's safe to say we don't have Tom Brady here.
On Hurn's touchdown reception against the Lions on Friday, rookie quarterback Blake Bortles recognized man coverage on the outside against Hurns with a single deep safety. Bortles checked the play at the line and was confident Hurns could beat the coverage and make a play on the ball, which he did for a touchdown - from the OPs link under Hurns link....

I really hope Bortles doesnt sit on the bench this whole season (unless Chad Henne becomes elite to everyones suprise which I highly doubt).

I think it's safe to assume Henne won't suddenly become elite, and that Bortles will see the field this year.

Hopefully Blake could be as elite as him one day though.  I do feel that Chad Henne has improved under Frank Scelfo  the QB coach, but we all realize that Blake Bortles is the future & most of us want to see it be the present.

Henne has improved, but Bortles has a much higher ceiling.

Yeah, that too, but the truth is, if you have 2 of the worst QBR rated QB's on your team, you are going to be a pretty bad team.

This made me laugh.

You still can't put it all on the QBs. The team was hampered by a less than stellar running game, and an offensive line that would've struggled vs. a Pop Warner team at times.

Not to mention a pretty underwhelming recieving corps. Somebody posted are starters during the Gene Smith era and seeing the names it makes you wonder how we had any ability to pass at all.
