$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Newspapers hire the guys who write things that attract their readers. One of them is anything that disrespects the Jaguars.
If I'm citing the correct article referenced on 1010xl today, ESPN insider writer Mike Sando polled "eight current general managers, four former GMs, four personnel directors, four executives, six coordinators and four position coaches -- to provide a 1-5 rating for every head coach."

I don't subscribe so I'm not able to ensure this was the same article Hicken was referencing this morning, but if it is... Gus ranks as the 19th best coach.

I think that's pretty fair based on the record, and speaks well of a one year coach.  Pretty respectable given an extremely short track record with a team that's still a work in progress.

So, I'd say the USA Today writer lives in some alternate universe.

That's actually really really impressive considering he's a brand new head coach and went 4-12 last season.

Reputable newspapers don't hire people who are going to bring their credibility down either.

He was 19th.  Not sure if I'm allowed to share the ranking, but Bradley ranked just below Rex Ryan, and Mike Smith.  (And just above Whisenhunt and Trestman)  I believe he was the third of all the new coaches last year.  Though I think they overrated Darth Stache and Marvin Lewis.

Newspapers and magazines are becoming extinct.  Writing quality across their medium has suffered greatly during their current death spiral.

but just for devils advocates sake....

If Bradley finishes 3-13 or 4-12 again....wouldn't he be in danger of being replaced?

Zero % chance he's replaced.

This would only mean that the Jags would draft very high next draft and boy oh boy, what could the Jags look like the next season with some competent NFL guys making those high draft picks.

thought you guys could use a laugh too. :woot: :teehee:

This is the most ridiculous NFL article I have read this year.

Not even then, although that might make news.

Agreed.  It would have no impact on his situation here.
Quote:From a 3rd party perspective, it is easy to assume Bradley could be on the hot seat. However, Khan has obviously given him a long leash because really, how many HC's could get away with starting a guy born to play backup QB over the 3rd overall pick who looks like a stud so far and not be on the hot seat? If we don't have success in 2015, then the hot seat talk can officially begin.

After one season? No. There is no way you can look at this situation and reasonably think this coach could be on the hot seat, especially after the way the team responded in the second half of the season last year.  It's just irresponsible and/or lazy editorializing.

No, I don't see it.  I think he gets the third year at least before they'd consider any changes.

Agreed.  With the momentum this team has right now, even if there are struggles this season, the general perception is that the team is headed in the right direction, and that it is still a year away from being a legitimate playoff contender.  Much of that optimism is attributed to who the head coach is, and for that reason alone, it makes zero sense that he's suddenly on any hot seat.

Clearly the article was written for clicks.

But the question is do we give Bradley a 5-8 year rebuilding plan?

The rebuild will be complete a year from now.  Then it's up to Gus to take what Dave has handed him and turn it into a winner.  I think we'll start to see that happen this year.  Will he get 5-8 years to get to a winning record?  Not a chance.  But, I don't think there's much to worry about there.

Taking a team that was destined by most to go 0-16 and then have that team show major signs of improvement to go 4-4 after the bye(albeit against a weaker 2nd half schedule) was something I was very happy with last year.  I'm sure alot of folks in the analysis business noticed that.

I mean, it looked like we were by far the worst team in the league at the mid-point of the season.  Bradley definitely righted the ship.  He should absolutely get credit for that.

With that said, he's totally on the hot seat.  LOL
This just makes my head hurt... To think he got paid to do this? Really? What the...

I saw the link and for a moment thought Alfie himself said that. I giggled to myself and thought that it wouldn't surprise me one bit.

You forgot to mention that they lost their best offensive player threat in JB, at the 0-8 mark,( which turned out to be the lowest point of the season), right before they went 4-4 after the bye.

Coach Bradley kept them playing hard even though everything seemed to be stacked against them.

Yes, he absolutely deserves credit for that. It was an impressive 2nd half turn around, even if it wasn't very pretty.
Whut?
