Quote:Okay then, do we start the season with 2 FG kickers? That's the real question.

Do we:

1) blow off game 1 by not being able to kick FGs?

2) make a 53 man squad with 2 FG kickers?

3) make Redfern the punter, since he can also kick FGs until Scobee is ready?

What's the solution? We will know in a week or so if Scobee can kick in game 1. Right now, he cannot. But before then, we have to cut the roster to 53 players.

Pretty much. If scobee can't go then they'll keep redfern until he can. Pretty simple.

Not that simple.   Who would have made the 53 man roster and now won't because we are keeping Redfern instead?   Do we cut Storm Johnson?   Who was the 53rd man, and now is the 54th man because now Redfern is the 53rd man?  What position goes one man short because we are keeping 2 FG kickers?   I don't think any of us can answer that question; we can only speculate, but it shows how this is not "pretty simple."

Probably jt Thomas or joe young if I had a guess.

Obviously that's a tough call for any of us to make since we are outside of the organization.

I think already was
I remember Mark Simineau, a linebacker for the Eagles and later the Saints, stepping in to do placekicking duties in a similar pinch.  He was good at it!

Think Bortles can kick?

We clearly need an ambidextrous kicker to avoid situations like this. One leg injured? Use the other. Seems pretty simple to me.
I say we keep the good players and trade all the bad players for high draft picks. I sense that there may be some fundamental flaw to my strategy, but I just haven't figured out what it is yet.

You cut the guy at the bottom of your roster and move on.

I hate to open old wounds, but with Bortles and Co improving so much lately, it's time to reflect back on the pre-Bortles era in Jacksonville.

That's why we should have gotten a new center circa 2012 and not 2014/2015.

EDIT: I'm only mentioning this because Fred Jones-Brunell mentioned Matt Turk and referenced the 2011 season.

While we're at it, I always thought it would be cool if the Buccaneers had a kicker with a peg leg.  Arrrrrrrrr....
I'm pretty sure there will be an inactive player that can be put on the practice squad for a few weeks if necessary.

At this time of the year, most teams are looking for ways to stash players not raiding practice squads so they should be pretty safe.

Yeah, this is not some serious dilemma for the team.
We should go back and get Long Ding instead of sticking with Redfern.  He can kick field goals too.  And heck he even got a few sacks in college.

I say we trade Anger, but only if Gene Smith gets another job as a GM in the NFL.  I'm sure he'll be willing to throw a 3rd round pick our way.

Considering that our 53rd man will be inactive on game day anyway, I don't see why keeping Redfern until Scobee is healthy and stashing someone else on the PS is that critical a decision. The guy's the 53rd man for a reason; he's interchangeable with 31 other 53rd men and an untold number of 54th, 55th, 56th, 57th, etc. men.

I'd love to see what someone offers for Anger in trade. Maybe a bottom-of-the-roster player who they'd cut anyway, but I have a hard time envisioning a draft pick market for Anger.

There's no draft pick that's going to be offered for Anger, just as they probably wouldn't offer a player on the bubble.  He's a punter.

Your first point is spot on.  If they have to cut someone, it's not going to be a big deal, and odds are that 53rd guy will still be there when Scobee returns.

Whereas Anger would almost certainly be claimed on waivers. /thread
Can we just forfeit the season so Scobee can heal up?  Banger's leg is probably sore from all the punting he has done in the last couple years.

No doubt.  He's a rock solid punter.  I'm sure he'd have no trouble landing elsewhere, but no team is going to trade for him.
There are dumb threads on this site but this might take the cake. The whole darn cake...

Simple solution, let Bortles kick, it'll improve his madden ratings in that area.  :woot:
