Quote:I think calling him terrible after 2 preseason games is a little overkill. It's gonna take time for the line to jell. Right now, it's new.

He may be stopgap at OC anyway. One of the rooks will be snapping for us for years to come.

He's been terrible for 2 years.  They plugged a guy that played terribly at guard into the starting center spot, and in 2 pre-season games he's still terrible.

Now, is it possible that he miraculously improves?  Sure.

What do I think?  I think his trend of terrible play continues.  He's just not that good.  It's questionable whether he's a serviceable backup even, IMO.

His lack of versatility really hurts his chances of making the team.  If he loses the job (and I expect him to, to Linder) then he's likely a goner.

It's tough because he's a hard working, likeable guy.  I hope it works out for him somewhere.
Nope
Slide Linder into center.  If another team's camp cut does not produce an answer at the open guard spot, sign Richie Incognito to a one year minimum deal to provide a Band-Aid.  I know it won't happen due to the negative PR backlash he would produce.  But, it would be a one year solution.

Quote:I just think people hear Gruden ripping into him and assume his entire game was bad.

The jags would have never moved the ball like they did if he were stinking up the joint.

Brewster is awful... dont blame Gruden

He's awful at guard. I don't agree that he's awful at center. He snapped much better last night... The whiff on the block and the holding penalty were glaring, but there were some okay moments. Just my opinion, if he can't hold onto the starting OC job, he won't make the final 53. As it stands today, I see Linder being our starting OC and McClendon sliding into guard. Bowanko will back up both, I think, once he's healthy.
I think if they take the approach of getting your 5 best lineman on the field it will have to be Brewster at C and Linder at RG.

I agree with Pirkster though, whatever they wanna do I hope they set a lineup this week and let them gel as much as possible.

That will be even more difficult now with Pasztor's injury. I assume Bradfield will be taking over until he returns.

You're right but that kinda makes it even more imperative to not have more moving parts coming in and out of the middle of the line.

I have confidence in Bradfield though, he's a nice backup to have.
The false start call at the goal line was detrimental and unacceptable. The team simply cannot have costly mistakes like that. The question at center is a bigger question to me than the QB question after last night's game, and it needs an answer very soon. The position is too important for it not to be solidified with someone capable of stringing together consistency.

Start Linder at OC, trade for Alex Boone at OG. Line fixed.

I guess that I'm not the only one that felt outside of a few mistakes he played pretty well.

I'd rather have Brewster than McClendon. I mean, speaking of awful. I'm 6'1, 210 and I could play guard better than McClendon.

Hyperbole much?

If you make a few mistakes in one game, you had a bad game. That is two bad games in a row. He doesnt have what it takes.

Are you expecting Gus to be anything but positive in a public press conference?
Mike Dempsey said he spoke to Lageman today. Lageman said after reviewing the tape all three guys who played center actually played well.

Not according to Gus.

He pointed out Lee last game. Besides, he could have said nothing. I didn't hear an endorsement for McClendon.

You poor thing. You think everything coaches say at press conferences is true.

I dont need Gus to sugar coat things to know what i think.

Gus just confirmed what I saw with my own eyes. As did Sexton. As did Lageman.

It's not our fault you don't know how to evaluate the performance of an offensive lineman.

You dont need to be a professional to see that Brewster whiffed on multiple occasions (in one half). Play a full game and his mistakes are likely doubled.

Last game he snapped it over the QB twice. This week he snaps it late inside the five. Ya, hes wonderful.
