Houston slipped when drafting a QB late instead of early. Good defense zero offense. Hmm sounds like our team in 2012.

I dislike FSU, I'm a gators fan. It might be a win/win/win for me.


Some combination of Winston staying another year, the Texans still sucking, and Winston going to jail for some other boneheaded crap.


Or better yet, he gets drafted by them top 5 and THEN he gets banned from the league.

Honestly when it comes down to it, I don't really care if the Texans suck. Its fun to make fun of them, but I really just want the jaguars to do well.

I'm completely lost as to why they're still trying to force the 3-4 when they have legitimate star 4-3 personnel

I don't know why I feel like this, but I can't help but think that Crennel simply doesn't have the capability / flexibility to coach up a 40 front.

 

I get that the man is a professional coach who has several Super Bowl rings under his belt, but his stints at Cleveland and Kansas City have left a sour taste in my mouth over the guy.

His defenses have been mediocre since leaving NE.

It's amazing how a guy can appear to be a genius when he has multiple future hall of famers on his starting 11 that actually fit the scheme he wants to run.

 

I think it's been shown pretty well since he left NE that he wasn't the straw stirring the drink.

Look at these rankings throughout his career.

 

Not very impressive in terms of defensive rankings.

He may be one of those guys (see also:  Turner, Norv; Infante, Lindy; Ryan, Buddy) who may be better as a coordinator than as a Head coach.

I think that Crennel has shown that he really can't be trusted with the keys to a team, it's just not within his abilities. The feeling that I get is that he may not be able to get creative with his Defensive players and schemes and be able to make full use of a dyed-in-the-wool, 40 front, Defensive End.

 

He has shown that he can coach, but stealing the old phrase about Bear Bryant - Can he take your'ns and beat his'ns?

No I don't think he can.

 

But interestingly, the man with whom he has worked extensively throughout his NFL career-Bill Belicheck-was seemingly a dyed in the wool 3-4 guy who recently transitioned the Patriots into a 4-3 team.

 

It's odd given the talent that Clowney represents that Crennell wouldn't make a similar move.

I think that the personnel there, provided that Cushing stays on the field, matches up very well with a 4-3. Watt can play the 3-technique, Clowney the Weakside End, Cushing the Mike, and so on. But I just don't think that Crennel will be able to get the most out of them.

I agree completely with all of this-with the caveat that Cushing has to be healthy.

Even the best defenses tire when constantly put back out on the field.

 

I'm most amazed at how far their offense has fallen off the cliff.  It's not like Schaub was a special signal caller.  He was (I suppose "was" being the key word) efficient enough with the football.

 

I also don't think an aging Andre Johnson can entirely explain it, either.

 

Maybe it's simply the attrition and incremental decay all around the offense.  Just as I don't really think the Texans are as bad as they seem, at the top of the division I don't think the Colts are really as good as their record, either.  Both teams' fortunes, I believe, could quickly turn in the opposite direction.
