Quote:
He has shown that he can coach, but stealing the old phrase about Bear Bryant - Can he take your'ns and beat his'ns?
Actually, that quote is by Bum Phillips about Don Shula. And that's stated with a respectful tone, not a snotty one.
But carry on. Texans suck.
Quote:Even the best defenses tire when constantly put back out on the field.
I'm most amazed at how far their offense has fallen off the cliff. It's not like Schaub was a special signal caller. He was (I suppose "was" being the key word) efficient enough with the football.
I also don't think an aging Andre Johnson can entirely explain it, either.
Maybe it's simply the attrition and incremental decay all around the offense. Just as I don't really think the Texans are as bad as they seem, at the top of the division I don't think the Colts are really as good as their record, either. Both teams' fortunes, I believe, could quickly turn in the opposite direction.
I agree completely here.
I have no idea how or why Schaub fell off so dramatically, but it served to destroy their season.
As for the Colts...I saw a reference to an article that posited they had the worst roster in the league aside from Luck. Im not sure if I would go quite that far, but I know they have holes in their roster, especially along the O-Line.

Just another article giving Luck a pass when he performs at a mediocre level again

I do remember that quote from Bum, but I could have sworn that it was about Bryant first. Ah well, ya learn something new every day.

We're both right. From Bum Phillips' wikipedia:
(referring to
Miami Dolphins coach
Don Shula) "He can take his'n and beat your'n and take your'n and beat his'n."
[8] He also said the same line about Bear Bryant.
Quote:Matt Schuab fell off because the offensive line and defense deteriorated drastically. Schaub needs a clean pocket, a strong running game and defense to be a competent QB; he doesn't possess the arm talent or athleticism to compensate for those deficiencies. He was exposed for what he was last year, a QB that can't produce if the pieces around him aren't elite; he's an older version of Andy Dalton. That's what's so impressive about Andrew Luck, that guy will produce no matter how good the talent is around him, Blake Bortles (at UCF) showed similar qualities, that's what makes a true franchise QB, a guy that can elevate the level of play of everyone around him.
It's true.
I recall comparing his ability as a QB with Gabbert's ability and was summarily dismissed.
He might be a bit better than Gabbert because Gabbert seems to even be regressing as he goes on, but Schaub never has been and never will be even an above average QB. With the level of talent the texans enjoyed that Schaub never even threw for 30 TDs once during that time is telling.
He got plenty of yards, but yards always have been and always will be practically meaningless in a league where teams often just try to keep things in front of them and wait for the field to become compressed as teams get close to the red zone.
What matters with QBs is how they perform in the pressure moments of games and Schaub has always come up short in those times.

Shaub is light years better than Gabbert. Not a "BIT." A guy that has thrown for 25,000 yrds and 130 touchdowns compared to a guy who has thrown 22 touchdowns and 4,300 yrds should not even be mentioned in the same sentence together.
Shaub also had 5 straight seasons with over a 90.0 QB rating (a stat you constantly cling to). I realize you have this personal vendetta against Shaub, but please do not say he is only a bit better than Gabbert. It insults the game of football. Shaub was a decent QB, one who torched the Jags for years. Gabbert is a skid mark on the underwear of the NFL and could possibly go down as one of the worst QBs of all time. No comparison whatsoever.

I agree completely with you overall...but the closing statements in bold....dang dude! Ouch!
Quote:Too much? Lol
It's quite harsh...but I can't say it's inaccurate in the overall scheme of things.

Correction, Schaub appeared to be lightyears better than Gabbert for a few years.
Turns out I was right, though. Last season Schaub was Gabbert's doppelganger.

No Shaub is and was always lightyears better than Gabbert.
You do know that most of the time in the NFL players usually get a little worse as they get older.
So no you are not right at all.
Shaub 64 % career completion %age.
Gabbert 53.
Shaub = pretty good
Gabbert = trash
No comparison

Correction:
Schaub = trash
Gabbert = trash
Therefore, by by the transitive property, Schaub = Gabbert. :thumbsup:

Its funny how in your world Gabbert went from franchise QB to trash in one year.
Your QB takes = trash
Gabbert = trash
Therefore you = Gabbert?

Keep telling yourself that.
Schaub was actually wanted by a team that needed a starter.
Gabbert can't beat out Josh Johnson. :whistling:

More like your math = nonexistent
Septic tank's math = nonexistent.
You = septic tank?

It's all about perception, they'll both be out of the league pretty soon.
