Quote:I can't believe I am saying this but Frangie did pretty well last night. I am beginning to like the dynamic of the three.

Bo and Lags are keeping him in check which is a good thing.

I actually agree. Frangie was much improved last night.
I think last night was better. I still don't like Boselli in the booth. It seems clunky with him and Lageman.

Quote:I really liked Sexton as the voice, but then again I grew up listening to him PBP the Jags so maybe I am a bit bias. Frangie felt dififcult to listen to. He has this weird slur of speech in his voice that makes me think he is drunk while he is speaking. He doesn't really have a PBP voice. Hopefully they find a better option, but I really have no idea who it would be. Rick Ballou has a decent radio voice, but it is a bit generic.

Sexton has a fairly unique voice.  It's good radio quality, especially when he gets wound up on break away plays.  Unfortunately he hasn't honed the ability of smooth transition.  He's very good at conveying the excitement and anticipation of the moment with his rising tone. It gets you on the edge of your seat.  But if the play doesn't pan out he goes into instant Debbie Downer.  That is his biggest weakness.  If he could overcome that, I believe he would be a good play by play guy.
I heard a clip of the Frank Frangie Bortles touchdown call on the radio yesterday.  Did anybody else hear this?  OMG!  Laughing

I heard that today. It wasn't very good. It was weird, hard to explain exactly. I have been on here saying he's been pretty good with the games I have heard him call on Saturdays. Much different then what I heard today, and it was a "highlight"

Sounded as like very phony enthusiasm to me.  Or maybe "fake excitement" is a better term.

Yea I agree. It sounded really odd to me. Just odd, different.

His fake excitement is very awkward. In no way was Sexton a great PBP guy, but Frangie was a downgrade. Still do not understand the move.

Wait until the steelers game.  You'll hear real enthusiasm then.

Lageman may need to wear a poncho to that game because sitting next to Frangie at a steelers game is probably a lot like being in the front row of a Gallagher concert.  All that slobbering will be embarrassing.

I heard part of that first game and while I had low expectations, I was surprised when it wasn't completely embarrassing. Still he seems to be regressing instead of improving.

I was always kind of lukewarm on Sexton but yeah, he is definitely better than this guy.
1010XL kept playing the Frangie call of the Lee TD today.

Gotta say, it was absolutely awful.

Anybody else hear it?

I seriously would like to hear TMDs reaction to that call.

I heard it live. Just bad. The excitement seems contrived.

With approx 1 million H.S. athlete's playing football, only 40,000 make it to the Collegiate level, there are 1,824 active NFL players on game day.

With approx 45,000 announcers at radio statons in U.S., there are 125 PBP at Div 1 and only 32 for the league.

There are many contract PBP that work for broadcast syndicates and this is where Frangy falls into. He is not Div 1. talent..

He might have been doing S.I.U vs Ball State one week and Kent vs Miami (OH) the next.

There are precious few Vin Scully, Kevin Moist, Jack Buck, Gene Deckerhoff and Mick Huber's type's out there. Only a few individuals can instantly transfer what they have seen into cohesive and cognizant verbal flow with out flubbing and leaving out pertinent information. It takes time to form chemistry with Color and Commentary. LAGS is very, very good. Bo is still working on it, but extremely intelligent. Frank reminds me of a big fish from a SMALL pond getting tossed into Lake Superior.

It is absolutely no different from a rookie adjusting to the "Speed of the Game"

Frank is an UDFA trying to adjust, whether or not he has the mental capability and verbal gymnastics to adjust is still open to review.

IMHO live action and tape review does not look completely promising.

HeadSlap

I only heard him during the first quarter while driving home but it was worse than some high school broadcast I've heard.

If it wast for recognizing tony and Jeff I would've thought I was listening to some fan trying to do PBP. It was horrible in surprised they replaced sexton with this guy?

Hopefully it's temporary, thankfully we get jacksonville broadcast and my days of listening on the radio are over.

His voice went up three octaves and sounded like he said "oh he got marquee".

He's probably pushing 60. When he's going to hit his stride? 65?
