Doesn't mean a thing for Marrone. If it was 2-4 games prior and we won against playoff contending teams, then maybe. But a couple wins against Tenn and Indi mean nothing towards our coaching decisions....
I think Marrone offers something unique - a change of culture without a change of systems. They could keep the coaching staff largely intact, making for an extremely smooth transition.

There's plenty to play for today, for both teams. There's a report today that Pagano and/or Grigson could be gone for missing the playoffs 2 years in a row. So the Indy coaches and players may be in a bit of turmoil about the future and not too focused on a meaningless game.

Marrone has his own reasons for wanting to win. He may have a small chance of landing the Jags' HC job, but a win today surely helps, and a loss today definitely hurts. Plus, if he doesn't get the Jaguars' job, his performance in weeks 16 and 17 will be looked at closely by prospective employers.

Doug Marrone really showcased what he can do in terms of getting the team through a tough week, then in preparation, communication, gameday decisions, adjustments, and sideline demeanor. Last week vs the Titans was pretty impressive. If he does it again then IMO he is a good fit to lead this team.

I appreciate wholesome open minded takes like yours, Byron Leftown.  Especially for a down trodden squad as Jacksonville.  You look at everything you can without being readily dismissive.  I don't advocate Marrone's hiring or want him to be the coach, but I like full points.
it's funny when I see Jag fans turn their nose up, still.  Like you can't look at the mirror and realize you have no clout.

Quote:This team would be better served to slide in the draft this year. Unfortunately, we can't slip out of the top five at this point, so hopefully we can trade down.

We wouldn't be better to slide.
Quote:If he was being seriously considered for the job, he would have gotten the interim gig a lot sooner. He's a seat warmer regardless of what happens today. What this exposes if they win again today in a meaningless game is that the division was as bad as most expected it to be, and that mediocre coaching at the helm could have won it. We aren't shopping for a mediocre head coach.
This make it easier for me to understand.

Thanks.

And I hope you're right

Yeah they could of gave him interim after the Chargers or the Titans blowout if he was a serious option.
Quote:In fact this game is important for one thing : draft position.

If we win and Chicago lose, we are 4th and Chicago 3rd.

So go Colts I guess !

We're already picking 4th as it is.
This game to me is just a chance to see if this offense is capable of showing any consistency coming off of last week's good showing.

If they do, it does indeed speak well of Hackett and Marrone.  They seem to have good game day communication regarding offensive adjustments and I want to see if it's more than a fluke.

Agree with JackCity, I can't imagine any situation where having a later draft pick is better, particularly since the rookie cap deal. Heck if you want to slide just don't make a pick, as the Vikings did.

Yeah I mean I actually want us to trash the clots but moving down in the draft doesn't actually help us in any way
I think we can stop talking about removing the interim tag now. When you blow a game you lead for 59:51, and you get as tight as hey did with the play calling at the end of the game, you're not the answer. The entire staff needs to go tomorrow.
Quote:2016 as a jags fan.....

Sucked for the most part...

However...

I believe....
If we keep Doug Marone

And Hackett...

We're gonna win our division next year...

Tomorrow is our last time to root for our team...

Last week and this week are two glimpses into what's gonna happen next year...

If we beat up the clots tomorrow and keep Marone that is....

If we don't and we hire someone else...

We won't know what we've got until...Idk maybe 4 games into the 2017 season...

Tomorrow is a HUGE game for us jags fans..

If we win ( which I believe we will)

I say keep him .... And the future is bright

Comments?

You pretty much said the same thing about Bradley.

You are beyond s....
There is no way marrone should be let back in the building after tomorrow. because if you think the little changes he made was the key to the offence playing better. Then why the hell as the asst head coach did he not goto gus and say make these little changes and we will win games. cause this is a guy who is only looking out for himself. He quit in buffalo he did not make our offensive line better and he did not help gus make the offense better. put this [BLEEP] out with the trash he is useless.

It's irrelevant now, but I disagree. In this draft, it may be better to get out of that top five range based on what this team needs and how the draft stacks up.

This. Lol. Anyone holding for Marrone was feeling the desperation of being a Jag fan. The new HC will bring in a new staff.

I'm conceding this point. As should everyone else on this board.

Agreed. Some on here were talking like Marrone was the next Coughlin

Definitely not. The highest spot gives you the best possible chance to land your highest ranked player and gives you the best chance to trade down too.

I never lobbied for the guy, but the team showed a lot of really bad things today.

Bortles at least didn't throw another INT, but he's lost yet another game he threw for 300+ yards in.
