It seems the Jags have real depth at the dline.They are loaded.They will keep maybe...8 or 9?Who they cut will definitely be picked up

His very first snap in the game on the opening drive when he drew a holding call on Demar Dotson after he walked him back into McCown's face.    The penalty wiped out a 17 yard first down  by the Bucs and put them in a 3rd and 19 and essentially killed the Bucs opening drive .     Or when  he took Dotson wide  and created the gigantic blitzing lane that Telvin Smith ran through to rush  McCown into the throw on the Guy pick 6.    That seems like a pretty nice accumulation of big plays for a guy who only played 3 series, and mostly in a subpackage role. 

 

 

 There wasn't a single snap I believe the Babich would grade Branch negatively on in his film review.    Maybe a discombobulated twist with Marks that was a timing issue between the two that you can typically expect in the first preseason game.

Either way, I think he should get some reps with the first team next week. His couple of jumps off the line reminded me of Troy Polamalu and his borderline offsides shenanigans.

 

What did you guys think of the DLine's performance this game?

A lot of rotation with the Leos I think is the plan, and the DLine did look impressive early in the game against TBs starters.  Chris is already on the 1st team / starter at DE

He ran a designed play and performed his duties exactly as assigned, and in doing so contributed to a pick 6 (he also made a critical block that sprung the TD).    To Johnny Meatball Football Fan, I guess that's called "getting blocked" and should be docked for it.   Most meatball fans probably also think when defensive end is running a stunt play that he's getting stone walled by the guard.    That's why most fans are meatballs and their opinions should be given no credence.

Ahhhh....Jimmy "pseudo-intellectual Jr football analysis" guy. Always fun to see some kid describe some ordinary play as such in order to feign some superior expertise. It's cute. Really, it is.

Ugh no.  The pick 6 did not come on a stunt.   Again, either you didn't watch the game  or you have a stunning lack of understanding as to what it entails.

The defensive line came ready to play Friday night, that's for sure. I was very happy to see that live. If they're getting to the QB already that should be a good indicator of where Gus and Babich have this defense potentially heading. With all that said, I am going to keep throwing the key word around here that's become Gus's camp favorite. "Consistency". The front four was getting it done all night on Friday, now, let's see how you look on a Thursday night on the road.

The stunt was an example of the point he was trying to make (people not knowing about football and talking about it).  The statement he made in no way lead me to believe the stunt was used on that play, even if I had not watched the game.

A stunt called on Branch's 2nd snap of the game.  You might have missed it, since you apparently missed the holding penalty Branch drew on Dotson the play before.   This is an instance where a fan might accuse Branch of "getting blocked" but the Jag coaches grade him positively because it's specifically his job to attack and tie up the guard so it frees Marks up.    Just like a fan would accuse Branch of "getting blocked" on the Guy interception when it was specifically his responsibility to engage the offensive tackle and draw him up the field to clear the blitz lane for Telvin Smith, just as Marks equally "got blocked" by crashing down on the guard.

the starting defense shouldn't play long, right? In the 2nd preseason, usually starters play a quarter or do they play a half? I just hope we can take this deep d - line into the regular season, healthy. It's going to be hard to run up the middle with Red, Miller, and Marks clogging up the middle. The 3rd down (lightning) package contained Clemons, Marks, Davis, and Branch.

True. We'll see. It's promising though. I noticed we were rotating the lineman in and out constantly last Friday. Stupar stood out at MLB as well. I think he got hurt though on one play and had to come out. Not sure what his status is for Thursday but I hope he gets to play. Guy also made a great play on that overthrown pass too. Honestly looking to seeing just two main things on Thursday.Consistent pressure on the QB, and improvements made in the run blocking on offense.

Lol i saw this too... Im rewatching the game now cause i missed some this weekend.... Holy crap we got some pressure on that first defensive series... Marks was a beast
