Hey, what's the deal with Coughlin having a separate interview with Khan a day before he interviews with Caldwell?   That's kinda weird.

<a class="bbc_url" href='http://www.bigcatcountry.com/2016/12/29/14112600/jaguars-head-coaching-search-2016-tom-coughlin-david-caldwell' title="External link">http://www.bigcatcou...-david-caldwell</a>

First Khan says Caldwell will lead the coaching search, then Khan hires a consulting firm to "help" with the coaching search, then Khan has a private meeting with Coughlin without Caldwell being there.

I remember people laughed the idea off of him being canned as well. I mentioned that last weekend in the thread about the firm. It's highly likely he's out if Khan hires Coughling on his own.
I thought this as well.
It may just be that Khan wined and dined Coughlin last night to get a feel for him with them not being overly familiar with each other and then the formal interview is today.

Few potential possibilities.

1) Coughlin is being hired into the front office, possibly to replace Caldwell or to be above him in the chain of command.

2) Shad is simply vetting the candidates and seeing how they fit with his vision as an owner.

3) Caldwell's role as GM is being reduced to simply handle player acquisition and roster build.

4) Tom has already being meeting with the Khans and the interview is merely a formality

5) Caldwell simply couldn't make the meeting due to prior commitments.

6) The info is wrong and Caldwell did in fact meet with Tom informally yesterday.

I know it's not #5, because apparently, Caldwell was at practice yesterday.  I'm sure he could have gotten out of that.

On the other hand, maybe he was at practice so he could watch Marrone and see how he runs a practice.
I don't think Caldwell is going anywhere.

Also, Kouvaris just released this tweet:

"The Jaguars will use Caldwell's experience/contacts/relationships in the NFL and the search firm candidates in advance of 'Black Monday'."

Well for one, it's just an op-ed by alfie.... in other words [BLEEP].

Second, having a meeting with a team owner doesn't really mean anything at all.
Schefter just talked about it on NFL insiders. Sounds like it was just him and Khan where Khan vrtted him for ideas. If hes a finalist, Caldwell will be involved.
I dont see why that has anything to do with Caldwell's job, Khan is the owner, he can meet with anybody alone, he doesnt have to meet with them when Dave is there.

I am saying the same thing.  Coughlin built one hell of a roster despite the whole salary cap issue.  He built a roster that twice almost got to the superbowl.  Caldwell has built a glass house. Coughlin new GM!

Generally where there is smoke there is fire, but I think this is much ado about nothing.  Caldwell is probably just meeting with him separately.

Looking at Coughlin's first round picks especially, I would take his over Caldwell's any day.

Yes Coughlin got us into a bad spot with the salary cap back in 01-02 but I think that is the nature of how he does it. He drafts well, builds the team up, opens the window for a Championship, then stacks the deck to get it to happen. Afterwards, the team has to rebuild for a few years. If you're not bill bellicheck, I think this model is fine.
Mr Khan may have wanted to sit down with Tom and find out what it is Tom wants...Does he want to coach a few more years, does he want an exec job, an adviser role, does he want to start with coaching and work up into a position above GM?

I think it was the OZone  that I read the other day where John said that different organizations have different names and terminology for jobs, such as GM, President, and or will create a new position for someone...I would guess Mr Khan would like to know what it is Tom is looking for as for longevity since he cant coach forever

R J Soward? You like that pick?
Caldwell isn't going anywhere
When I saw who wrote the article, I stopped at the headline. I can read uninformed opinions by boneheads right here.
