Quote:Totally.  There's been a lot thrown at Jones and he's handled it well.  Hard to play a full season when you're more or less the only man on the depth chart.  His endurance has been pretty remarkable.
Not only has his endurance/durability been impressive.

He has flashed disruptive ability since coming into the lineup, moreso than Miller or Alualu (though Alualu is more of a DE in our defense).
Quote:I get that, in theory anyway, but when's the last time you saw a guy lined up head to head in an nfl game that wasn't a goal line situation?

I guess I just don't see the difference as being all that big between a 30 and 40 the more I learn about it.

I see. I misunderstood your question's intent then - apologies.
His stock has risen since he snapped the peg leg of the stinking tack. He makes me smile.

That was Sheldon Day, not Abry Jones.
From the perspective of an opposing team fan,  I was very impressed with the run Defense Abry Jones provided in the Jaguars-Lions game last month.   He was one of keys to why the Lions couldn't get the running going that day.    Even much more so than in a typical game.

Quote:I partially disagree with that as Abry Jones is a very good backup at the 1T and I think he may end up as a starter somewhere else in the near future.

Hey, this guy seems to know his stuff.
The middle defensive lineman in a traditional 3-4 set is the Nose Guard. He lines up straight on the Center and takes a C/G double team pretty much every play. His job is to stand there and not move. Ted Washington and Vince Wilfork are ideal NGs, 6'2" and 400 wide pounds. Jones, Miller, and none of the rest really fit the shape.

Defensive Tackles don't really exist in the 3-4, you have Ends and the NG. All this talk of Tackles and Techniques is just commentary fodder.

Generally the run stopping tackle is the Nose Tackle and the pass rush guy is the Defensive Tackle.
I've been a huge Abry fan from the beginning. This guy has been phenomenal. He's had very little rotation and he's still out there being disruptive on every snap. If we don't pay him then some team will get a steal.

All the better. Here's to many more stinking tack peg legs being snapped like twigs in the future.

Savage 'Kota

I wish them nothing but the best in life. However, as long as they are stinking tacks, I wish them nothing but doom and gloom. They deserve every last bit of it.

I see what you did there.
I was very impressed with Abry Jones this year. He not only held up in run support but also had some penetrating splash plays.

I feel he should be resigned as soon ad possible.
Jones has developed into a good player. How much positional versatility does he have in a 3-4? NT or DE? Jackson can play at 3-4 DE (with another NT being drafted in the middle to later rounds), and Miller could be NT, with Alualu continuing on as a reserve.

Wanted to revisit this thread because the more I thought about it I feel like Jones is the best player the Jags have reaching FA. He is only 25 years old and showed a lot of upside this past season. I am curious as to what sort of contract will he command and what should the Jags offer him? Thoughts?

He'll be looking for 4+ million a year at least. 5 million would be reasonable for both sides when you look at other players around that number.
I'd much rather keep him than Odrick.
