In regards to Harvey, oops I meant Tyson Alualu he is good at what he does (Run stopper with occasional pressure on the QB). He is in no way a Leo, solely rush passer type of player. That is what Jason Babin & Clemons are on the team to do. He's more like Big Red's backup
I dont know who started this " good run stopper " myth about Alualu, but it is completely false.

He's actually fairly stout against the run. He gets handled a bit occasionally on double teams, but for an undersized defensive tackle that will happen.
He was over drafted. If he was a second rounder nobody would be that hard on him.
C'mon everyone knows that Alu post injury is not the same, and will never be the same.

1. He isnt a Defensive Tackle... and he isnt an undersized DE.
2. He's quite bad at the run game. Our run d has been bad every year since he's started, people use the good run stopper excuse to grasp at straws.
3. If he was a second rounder, and hadnt already given him 30 mil, he wouldn't be on the team.

1. He was a defensive tackle prior to this year. As a DE, he is too slow.
2. Just because a defense is bad at run stopping doesn't mean it is one players fault. I've watched him and while he doesn't man handle anyone, he does a decent job at holding his position, which in most defenses that is what a DT is supposed to do.
3. He is a hard working, tough nosed player. Coaches like Bradley love that. You dont think Caldwell would have purged Alualu like the rest of the Gene Smith castoffs? lol

Alright this is nonsense. If he was a 4th rounder, he would be expected to perform like he has, he still would have been a disappointment for a second rounder. He is a backup/rotation player
at best. Alualu is not a run-stuffer either. Hes a guy. A guy that occasionally tackles, but almost never for a loss, and frequently after decent gains. If he was off our defense there would be almost 0 drop off from him to the undrafted rookie. He is gonna be a vet minimum kind of guy very soon IMO.

The article is trying to paint him a solid player and a good backup. That is what I would consider Rob Meier. Alualu is nowhere near the player that Meier was.

I would take Meier over Alualu, but when Meier had his shot to start, he sort of flopped. As a back up, he was a beast. He was great when put in the right situation. I think Alualu would be a similar player.
People hate Alualu more because of where Gene Smith drafted him. If he was that bad, two coaching staffs wouldn't have put him in the position to start (on a defense lacking talent)

I don't "hate" him at all. I just don't think he is very good at anything in particular.
I think he started last year for the same reason guys like Nwaneri, Russell Allen and Dwight Lowery started.
Would not shock me to see Alualu cut before the season starts.
I also find it funny that BCC props up Alulau but at the same time wants to run Poz and Branch out of town.
I forget he's still on the team most of the time, that should tell you enough about how big of role that 1st rounder plays on our team.
