The problem with Jacksonville is there is absolutely nothing to do around downtown.  If the Jaguars were able to have a hand in this, Jacksonville could be a cool destination for many.

One error I see is that the Jags play a mile from the St Johns.  I'd say less than a 1/4 mile, but this is actually a good write up by PFT for us.

It's good to see PFT catching up with stuff that was initially reported months ago.

The thread title says "Jags to develop land around the stadium."   That is incorrect.   The article actually says that the Jags are pondering whether to develop the land around the stadium.

They're pondering it pretty deeply.  Khan already has verbal commitments from a hotel chain, restaurants, and some retail.  If it moves forward, there will be some high profile announcements almost immediately.
This is something that has been discussed for a while. I hope it does happen. This city does not have a great track record on getting developments moving in the urban core.

Wow, all the stuff going on is creating an exciting vibe for the organization and the city itself. Almost gives me the urge to make the move. ...as always, employment is the key and overall, the job market is still kinda tough down there no?.....(btw no snide remarks, FBT!!!)

The job market is much better here than in your neck of the woods.  Especially in your field.  Wink Banana

For the first time, discussions about the shipyards and development are being had by people who are actually serious about doing something.  The fact that the Jaguars want to drive it is something that's been clear since Khan first indicated that if nobody else stepped up, he would.

The plans they showed renderings of a short while back showed how it would look, and the centerpiece of it is an indoor practice facility and offices for the team.  If what I was told recently about the companies who have already said they'd participate in the development if Khan decided to spearhead it, it would really change the entire dynamic about what people think of life downtown.  We're talking about major restaurant, retail, and hotel companies who want to be part of the project.
Wait for it.

Wait forr iit.

[BAD WORD REMOVED]!!!!! Big Grin I don't/ didn't work in fast food!!!! But seriously, I don't ever want to work in any sort of restaurant kitchen again. Been there, done that.

...and you know what else that would do?....

pretty much put the nail in the coffin of any remaining (ideas) that the team isn't in Jacksonville for the long haul.

I didn't mention anything about fast food.

Khan has already invested in other areas around town, but this would be a huge move for him.  There's also talk they're looking at bringing in a world class aquarium to boost tourism in the area.

I was told by someone who has been privy to the plans that there won't be any question about the commitment of the team staying in Jacksonville if they move forward with this project, and it sure sounds like they're going to do so regardless of what the city does.

The Aquarium would seem like a fantastic (additional) idea.

There's also talk that if they do develop the area that the maritime museum would relocate to the shipyards, and they would get a retired Navy vessel to use for tours.  There would also be a pretty nice marina where boaters could not only dock for games, but where they could admire Shad's new yacht when it's not being rented out for $1.5 million per week.

...Sounds like more good ideas...and dang....the man is living the dream, eh?.... Must be nice.
When Khan said a homeless guy in Detroit has more mojo than the millionaires in Jacksonville, it offended some.  But, I thought it was spot on.  We've got quite a few millionaires here who simply have no vision, or at least not the kind of global, long-term vision Khan does.  I think he's made it his mission to drag them into the vision thing kicking and screaming, and I think it's great for the city.

He's a shrewd businessman.  He knows how to make money.  What I was told is that he doesn't do anything unless there's a way to make money off of it, including buying a yacht.
All this development will run lost canoeists away. Sad

Good for him, and good for Jacksonville!

I think once the momentum really starts going with some of these projects, it will only have the snowball effect for even more positive development down the road.

They can row right on up to the dock too.  Just don't ding the yacht. You might get this:
