We announced this last October. Also saying our stadium was a renovation in 1995 of the Gator Bowl which it was not.
They keep the 2 upper deck post and thats it.

People are jealous!!!
I guess we had a world soccer game and it was mentioned
Because ESPN just found out.

I think they found out months ago but they've only now run out of topics are forced to include something about the Jaguars. And since ESPN knows less than nothing about the actual team you end up with stories like this.

It is June guys.
Slow news day in the NFL.

At least when they're talking about the Jags this time, it doesn't come in the same sentence as London or Los Angeles.

They're giving Khan some free marketing for the stadium upgrades on a national level.   That can't hurt.

I find the comments section on ESPN.com to be quite amusing. The ignorance rivals that of the FTU and News4Jax, and may actually top it.
If I read them, will I seem more smarter by comparison?

The comments at the bottom of the Jaguars.com stories ain't much better.

Most fan comments on any site regarding the Jaguars tend to be chalked full of stupidity.  This one is a little less dumb as many of the fans here are better informed about the team.  Still, there are some....

Why can't the CIA or somebody find the source of this highly successful IQ reduction program and shut it down?

It's like 2 for 1 days at lobotomy world.

You mean puberty? Pretty sure that's not going to help.

This could be the CIA at work.
I was briefly listening to Dan Patrick and he mentioned one of the topics today was the growing "epidemic" of stadium/arena renovations.  Didn't listen to the segment, but my general impression is he saw Jacksonville doing something cool and wanted to put a negative spin on it.

The backlash against stadium renovations always amazes me. It's one of the few assets that a city can own, other than a traffic enforcement division, that can actually make money for the city. Not that they don't have their place and uses but Roads, Schools, LIbraries, etc. all of those things simply provide a service and cost the city money to operate. The stadium is one of the very few things that can put money into the city's pockets and it's the one thing that seems to get the most push back on making them better.

Just odd to me.

It doesn't help that people don't understand where the funding comes from for projects like this one.  I always love the comments saying that money could have gone toward schools or libraries or some other noteworthy cause.  They simply don't understand that the money being spent is specifically designated for the sports complex.  There's a bed tax that funds all maintenance at the stadium, baseball grounds, and arena.

I also enjoy the comments from people who are supposedly locals who use the tired old line that it's pointless to spend all of this money on a team nobody cares about, and whose owner is going to move them to LA or London in a couple of years anyway.

The ignorant masses. Their lack of being informed is a good reason for a lot of the woes we face today.

I can't help but read them on all of these sites.  It is always a poignant reminder that our society still has these people!
because the USA soccer match had a lot of ESPN ppl here to broadcast and cover the game. They get here and say "hey look at dem der beeg boards" so they ask when was this all announced? The jags give them the press pack for the upgrades and bamm pictures of pools and cabanas. The ESPN morons said "hey there is a pool on here, we should write about this"

I suspect the Jags PR department sent stuff to the usual areas and then it was reported..  Plus the Jags had the hardhat tour for media yesterday which spurred more stories on the progress...

Not all is very positive as on Colbert last night that mocked the whole thing...  It doesn't  help that most are low information types that only hear half the story and think its the same as 4-5 years ago..

For some reason, there is a mindset within the national media that Jacksonville and it's fans do not deserve anything.

There was one ESPN talking head last year that ranted about the city paying 40 million for it's portion of the stadium upgrades. Said something about the city would be better off putting the money towards roads or schools.

He (of course) did not understand legally where that money could be spent. But that would require actual research.

Other cities spend hundreds of millions on stadiums and nobody bats an eyes.

But Jacksonville spends 40 million of tourist tax revenue? STOP THE PRESSES!!!
