Quote:Personally, I don't care if teachers or school staff carries weapons so long as they meet the qualifications for their State's police departments, but that's a conversation for another day. The chart that has been recirculated lately (with the pins on the map) uses incidents involving guns and labels them "school shootings" while talking specifically about Sandy Hook. It misrepresents the statistic.

When you talk about "school shootings", do you think about the kid that shot himself in his car at the back of the parking lot? The kid that brought a stolen gun to school and shot her own leg? The kids that were shooting wildly at a bunch of trees? I think it's disingenuous.

When I talk about school shootings, I'm talking about any individual carelessly firing a firearm on school grounds. Whether that shot came from a reckless kid behind the tree during recess showing off to his friends or a gang shooting on school grounds. If it happened on school grounds and If it puts the kids in harms way, its a school shooting and a very serious matter.
Quote:And to be honest, a school shooting is a school shooting. Only people that should have firearms anywhere near a school are the police.
I think any teachers/faculty that are willing and able to be armed should be.

The one cop on campus would be an immediate target for anyone looking to do real damage on a campus.

In a lot of shootings that are stopped, armed citizens help bring it to an end.
This I'm definitely starting to warm up to..  Lots of tragedies could have been avoided with trained and armed faculty as well..

We had a guy here kidnap a woman and go on a shooting spree a few months ago. He was eventually shot down by an armed citizen, who almost certainly saved a few lives.

I guess we just disagree here. I believe that most people interpret "school shootings", while using Sandy Hook as the starting point, as someone deliberately using a firearm for the purpose of harming or killing another student when many of them aren't.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we don't have a problem here. I only feel that there should be an clarification on the descriptions of these incidents; people wont have all of the facts when coming to their conclusions. I believe you're the exception here. Sandy Hook was an active-shooter scenario where someone was deliberately shooting with the intention of killing. I can't see the correlation when the chart uses a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the same category of Sandy Hook, but I suppose we'll just agree to disagree.

The problem isn't that more people don't have guns. The problem is the lack of healthcare in America. We have crazy people who should be in a mental institution running around. For instance, on Reddit right now there is a link to an article about a guy who habitually has sex with pool floats in public who is in and out of jail for the same crazy thing over and over. That guy needs help, honestly. One day, it might not be a pool float that he takes it to in the street. Back to my point, the kid and the mom both from Sandy were BATCRAP CRAZY and should never even have had guns to begin with. That's the problem.

I figured the kid was, but the mom too?
