As has been said, this is exactly why many of us wanted this to happen at midseason at the latest. I tend to think this is more one of the common Campbellesque interim boost situations than a true instant but permanent turnaround, but we'll never know.
I think its a long shot... But I'm not oppose to it.. Reason 1 is most of the core coaches will remain intact, so there will be no long overhaul of coaches coming to learn a new system.. Reason 2 is maybe this is a,better situation for Marrone then Buffalo.. Maybe Marrone had numerous ideas of how to improve this, team while Gus was coach but didn't wanna step on his toes.. Or ruin his chance at being the successor to Gus.. Either way if he wins and its impressive the case has been made.
Quote:I really don't wanna win no more games because that would put us way down in the draft with two other four win teams.
I want to win, because winning is a better indicator of future success than having a high draft pick is.

Same. I'd rather have a lower draft pick as well because it tends to allow more options to move around with other teams dead set on a player they might want.

Agreed, winning means more to these young players than anything. If Caldwell cant find a great player this year with where we pick at with 4 wins, he needs to go.

Agree with this as well. Hopefully we can pull off this last win. The good GMs can find talent no matter where they pick. We will still pick very high even if we beat Indy. A 2 game winning streak should give this team a little confidence going in to next year
Whoo logical fallacy season has finally arrived!
I was impressed with Marrone on Saturday, but I want to see us go through all of the interviews. Caldwell can't get this next hire wrong.
Marrone winning two games should get him a shot to interview. .. maybe he will be kept on as OC or asst HC if he doesn't get THE job.
Quote:Do you think Marrone will keep the job?
He has a losing record as a head coach so I have to say probably not.

Belichick as head coach of the Browns went 37-45. Good thing no one hired him after that losing record.
Even if we blowout the clots this week I don't think it would influence my opinion on Marrone as a potential HC.
TC, Matt Patricia, Harbough, McDaniels....I'd take any of these guys. If we pick up any of the NE coordinators we have a good shot at getting Jimmy G.
It doesn't matter what we do against the Colts, Caldwell and Khan screwed up both the season and the coaching search by not taking the keys away from Bradley after the first Titans game. Now Marrone, who instituted a startling change in professionalism and performance in one week, won't get a meaningful shot to earn the job.
I'm betting that the Dynamic Duo screw up the new hire and we end up with another run of futility. Nothing in how they handled Bradley, when even casual fans could see he was uncomfortable instituting even the most basic level of discipline with the players, should give any of us the slightest bit of confidence they'll get the next hire right.
My hunch is that Marrone is the best choice, seems closest to a young TC of anyone on the landscape.

Agreed. Look what happens when you instill discipline in a team. They aren't running around doing there own thing, they feel like they will be held accountable. Gus wanted to be everyone's friend.

If Marrone was being given serious consideration for the job, he would have gotten the interim tag a lot earlier in the process. Winning a couple of games at the end of a horrible season may get him an interview, but it will benefit him more for other openings. It won't help him here.

I'm all for grabbing a guy who looked good with a small number of starts as well! It worked out well in Houston.
I think it's a great spot for Doug.
He knows our team
He obviously knows how to get our team to play well...
I'm an Intuitive guy....
He's our coach
We will win
This team has habitually been terrible in the last game of the season the last 5 years. Getting blown out in each game. It would be interesting to see if Saturday was a fluke.
Gus beat these Colts, so... not sure it has a bearing on much of anything... unless we get blown out ourselves...
Quote:Sadly the team not using the San Diego game or the bye week to give him the interim run makes it a long shot.
The writing was on the wall after the SD game that things would never change under Gus. For the life of me, I can't figure out why he didn't get canned and Martine get a fair audition as interim.
