I wonder if Steve Spurrier will attempt to return to the NFL as a head coach, and eventually try to tie Pete Carroll, Jimmy Johnson, and Barry Switzer as the only coaches to ever win a SuperBowl and a College Football National Championship.

The fact that Pete Carrol had a rough start in the NFL with the Jets & then Patriots went to USC for almost a decade and than returned to the NFL and created such a successful dominating defense in Seattle to win a Super Bowl makes me wonder if Steve Spurrier might be able to try do the same.  Do you think an NFL team would give him another shot, do you think he would take it?

Absolutely not. Did you SEE his coaching job with the Redskins? Just shameful.

Pete Carroll was in the NFL for over 15 years before going to USC. Most of those were spent as a defensive coach.

And Spurrier's problems ran way deeper than anything Carroll ever had with the Jets and the Patriots.

i think spurrier just enjoys the college game more. he is a great recruiter, he likes molding the youth. i dont see him leaving college.

Steve Spurrier is 69 years old.  It's very doubtful he will have another opportunity to be an NFL Head Coach,  even if by chance he has interest in going back to the NFL.

Spurrier is older, and has no interest in the year round work that is required for an NFL head coach.  When he's done at SC, I think he'll retire, and there's no sign he's ready to do that yet.

When the retirement time for Steve Spurrier comes and even before then, it's easy to envision Spurrier spending many hours, days, and weeks on many of the Myrtle Beach Golf Courses.
To answer the headline...

ah, no.

Gator homers...lol

As most have said. Nein.

Pointless addition to the thread.

But extremely true..
Naw. If he were 10 years younger I could see it though. Why ruin a cake job now? He'll be able to retire at SC when its all said and done.

While Florida fans kick themselves in the face.

True, I wonder how much of his failure as a Redskins Head Coach was due to the horrible owner Daniel Snyder (as many great coaches didnt look good on that team such as Joe Gibbs (HOF), Mike Shanahan (SBC), and Marty Schottenheimer (underrated winner).  I think the fact that the players can always go straight to the owner and bypass the coach has an influnece among other things that owner has done.

What does this thread have to do with Gator homers? Nothing here screamed Gator homers at all and someone chimes in with that gem. Folks like that are just as bad as when those same folks say Gator fans are the worst, etc.
I mean Pete Carroll is 62 years old so not a huge difference in age at 69 (7 years difference), but Joe Paterno was coaching into his 80s.

When Joe Gibbs returned to the NFL for the Redskins he was 67 years old, Marv Levy brought the bills to four AFC championships and retired at age 72, so I mean his age is a factor and you are all right he most likely will never return to the NFL but it could happen a slight chance.

Age wise they may be 7 years apart but it seems like they are 20 years apart.  Spurrier barely put in a 40 hour work week with the Redskins at age 60.

Only a Gator homer could find a way to compare Carrol's situation to Spurriers. Thanks for playing but I stand corrected, Gator homers...lol

If you look at the path of the two it is not a terrible comparison whatsoever.

You throwing that in without being poked or prodded at all makes you no better then the ignorant, homer Gator fans you talk about. Congrats.

I was going to say this. Spurrier doesn't have many years left in the college game, let alone making the jump back to the NFL.
