Quote:10 wins, with Henne starting?

Not going to happen.
Hmm how do you know?

Is the home planet London?

OOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH NO I DIDNT!

Because I've seen Henne play, I've seen the team around him, and I've seen the moves that have been made this offseason.

The team would have to carry Henne to get to 10 wins and this roster isn't ready to carry a Gabbert level QB to 10 wins at this point in time.

Even the Seahawks only won 7 games in 2011, and they had five pro-bowlers.

I know a lot of people here are getting delusional about how beatable the colts are and such, but you don't beat teams with franchise QBs unless you either have an elite pass rush or a franchise QB of your own. I don't see either of those things this season if Henne is the guy starting.

Now, if Bortles ascends much faster than the team is anticipating and he's ready to start at or near the beginning of the season then maybe 10 wins happen if he's as good as a #3 overall QB is supposed to be.
Quote:if henne takes the team 10-6 then we will 99% be looking at playoffs. So then he will be judged on his playoff performance.

but honestly if a QB is going 10-6 then who cares? We are riding higher than we've been in a long time.

Very on point, judge him by playoff success.  Also, depends on whether we won games late because of offense or defense.  To win 10 games you need playmakers and the Jaguars don't have many proven at this point.

You mean to tell me if he take a team, that haven't been to the playoffs in 7 years to the playoffs, he wont be judged on that? I doubt it.

Henne is better than Gabbert....
Hey it is the crazy offseason. This is where dreams are made and when the season starts they get crushed, but we still have all off season to dream!!!!

Seriously though, we have a pretty weak division. It really is there for the taking.
Can we get 10 wins and can Henne lead us to 10 wins are different questions.

Is it possible that the running game explodes off the bat with Toby and Storm looking like a young Mojo and Freddy, the young guys in the secondary step up to the next level, the DL with all its turnover in personnel finds a combination that can actually stop QBs and the young WRs transition seamlessly into the NFL meaning all any QB has to do is not play like crap for us to win games? Yeah its possible but unlikely.

Is it possible Chad Henne will start not sucking and lead us to the playoffs? Not really.

If Henne takes this team to 10-6, then it's time to wake up and go to work. The Jaguars are going to have to stop opposing QB from standing in the pocket and picking them apart first. It all starts with the pass rush.

Keep him and let Bortles Develop another year, why would you rush him in when we are winning anyway?

I don't think that's going to be a problem this year. We basically have a brand new D Line

Not enough for it to matter.

Both of them are guys who should never be starting a game.
When there's a thread thinking Henne could possibly lead us to the playoffs. It could only mean one thing. #deadzone

Henne is a meh starter/good backup

Gabbert is a meh backup, bad third stringer.

There is a big difference, But you're right, it doesn't matter.

Quote:So with it being declared that Henne will start this season, and Bortles next. The question that remains is what happens if Henne actually plays good and win? Then who will be your starting qb going into next year?

See:

Jon Kitna/Carson Palmer

Alex Smith/Colin Kaepernick

Bortles is the future of the team.  Whatever happens with Henne happens.  You'd like to get something for trade (even Gabbert had trade value) but in the long run it really doesn't matter much as Bortles is expected to be the guy regardless.

Completely agree.
Henne had a ~85 QB rating in the final 8 games, scoring ~20 points per game and the team finished with a 4-4 record.    It's not unreasonable to expect an 8-8 caliber team when he has a full year under the offsense, with young talent continuing their upward career arc, significant and badly needed upgrades at RB, DL, SLB, OG and WR added in the offseason and a much easier schedule substituting the AFC and NFC West with the NFC East and AFC North.   The team can then swing +/- 2 games based on luck either way.  Every year some unknown team takes a 6-8 game swing by simply playing solid defense and special teams, efficiently throwing the ball, shortening the game through a running attack and winning the turnover margin .  Last year it was the Chiefs.  The year before the Vikings.    Heck, Parcells first year in Dallas in 2003 he went 10-6 with Quincy Carter as the QB and Troy Hambrick as the feature RB.

That said, 10-6 is probably your franchise ceiling under Henne, so the answer to the original question of the thread is that Bortles starts as soon as he's deemed ready to do so, regardless of what Henne does or doesn't do.

Are we really going to have the Henne is a bad QB argument again?

Seriously, he's every playoff level team's nightmare under center.
10-6 threads.    This is why I absolutely love the offseason more then the actual season at this point.
